Say hello to Sydney Burkey from Milford, Nebraska! Sydney is majoring in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Communication and is passionate about sharing the stories of the people who make agriculture so impactful. She hopes to help others tell their own stories and make a difference through the power of communication. Earlier in August, faculty and staff from Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication came together for our School Kickoff Meeting!

Throughout the day, colleagues spent time getting to know one another and our programs, celebrating the strengths each team brings, establishing shared expectations and discussing priorities for the year ahead.

It was a great opportunity to bring everyone into the same room, build connections across teams, and continue shaping how we will work together for the year ahead! Here's to the new academic year!

🎈 I'm a Husker & Majoring in Agricultural Leadership, Education & Communication! 🎈

Say hello to Dallas Grunden from Curtis, Nebraska! Dallas is majoring in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Communication after discovering a love for photography at just five years old. She hopes to use visual storytelling to help bridge the gap between consumers and producers in agriculture. Dallas chose UNL because it immediately felt like home and is excited for the community and opportunities ahead. Welcome to the ALEC family, Dallas!

ALEC division staff were learning, connecting, and sharing at the 2026 UNL All-Staff Conference!

Jennifer Greenlee, Morgan Tranmer, and Christina Franklin joined staff from across campus for two days of professional development and connection centered around this year’s theme, “Our Staff, Our Strength.” Christina also took the stage as a conference workshop presenter, sharing her knowledge and experience with fellow UNL staff!

We’re proud to see ALEC division staff investing in their own professional growth while also contributing their expertise to the broader Nebraska community.

☀️ ALEC Summer Spotlight: Caleb Most

This summer, Caleb Most, a senior majoring in Agricultural Education, served as an Event and Hospitality Intern at Glacial Till Vineyard. From coordinating weddings and preparing event spaces to bartending and supporting special events, no two days looked the same, and that was exactly what Caleb enjoyed most!

Through the experience, Caleb discovered a passion for hospitality and creating memorable experiences for others. He especially enjoyed being a small part of so many meaningful celebrations, from weddings and rehearsal dinners to family gatherings, and the positive energy that came with each event.

Caleb also found connections between the classroom and the workplace. Conversations in his ALEC courses about creating welcoming, comfortable environments translated directly into hospitality, reminding him that helping people feel seen and supported is valuable whether you're teaching students or hosting guests.

Summer experiences like Caleb's show that leadership and communication skills can make an impact in every industry!

☀️ ALEC Summer Spotlight: Morgan Bonifas

This summer, Morgan Bonifas, a junior majoring in Agricultural & Environmental Sciences Communications, stepped outside her comfort zone while studying abroad in Spain and France! Along the way, she toured agricultural operations, explored new cities, experienced different cultures, and learned how agriculture connects people around the world.

As her first trip outside the United States, the experience challenged Morgan to see the world from a new perspective. She also discovered just how important clear communication can be, especially when language barriers exist. A lesson she learned in class about avoiding jargon became a real-world skill as she connected with people from different backgrounds.

Morgan's favorite part of the trip was experiencing it alongside new and longtime friends while exploring new places, trying local foods, and making memories together.

After graduation, Morgan hopes to build a career in agriculture where she can inspire others, especially young people, to become the best and most well-rounded version of themselves.

We're proud to see our students embracing new experiences and bringing those lessons back with them!

From superheroes and gumball machines to Elphaba & Glinda, Snoopy & Woodstock, and cookies & milk… this might just be one of the most colorful judging assignments of the summer!

ALEC faculty member Dr. Stacie Turnbull recently served as a judge for the Saunders County Fair Best Dressed Critter Contest, a fun 4-H event where youth and their animals team up in creative costumes.

We love seeing our ALEC faculty out and about, connecting with young people, families, and communities across Nebraska! Thanks to Saunders County Fair for letting Stacie join in the 4-H fair fun!

☀️ ALEC Summer Spotlight: Isabella Benne

This summer, Isabella Benne, a junior majoring in Agricultural Leadership, served on the Activities Team at Camp Rivercrest, where she led high-adventure and free-time activities for campers while also participating in chapel and small group discussions throughout the week.

The experience gave Isabella the opportunity to combine leadership with her passion for ministry. As the summer went on, she discovered just how much she enjoys serving others through camp ministry while continuing to grow in her own faith. One of Isabella's favorite parts of the summer was the people she worked alongside. Building relationships with her team and growing together in faith made the experience especially meaningful.

After graduation, Isabella hopes to pursue full-time ministry and is excited to continue exploring whether that path leads her to working with children or college students.

We're proud to see our students using their unique passions and gifts to make a difference in the lives of others!
