Congratulations to Dr. Nishant Kumar, one of today’s featured . After graduation, Nishant will be moving to the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa to work as a postdoctoral research associate with Prof Mukesh Kumar. Congratulations to Keith, one of today’s featured . After graduation, Keith said, “Since I'm 30 years into my career, this degree wasn't about starting out, it was about leveling up. I've spent decades on the technical side of control systems integration, and the MEM was my way of formalizing the leadership and business skills I'd been picking up informally along the way. My plan now is to continue contributing to a senior leadership role by overseeing multiple project teams, shaping company strategy, and mentoring the next generation of engineers coming up through the ranks. I want to use what I learned about organizational behavior, financial decision-making, and strategic planning to help my company grow more intentionally, rather than just reacting to whatever project lands on our desk next.”

Of his time work on his graduate degree, Keith said, “Honestly, going back to school as a working professional gave me a different kind of favorite memory than I had the first time around. It's the opportunity where I got to interact with others from all different points in their careers, many just starting their careers, and realizing how much I learned from their fresh perspectives on technology and problem-solving even as I was the one with the "real-world experience." It reminded me that good ideas don't care how long you've been in the field.”

Congratulations to Dr. Awawdeh and Dr. Ebrahim, two of today’s featured . After graduation, Abdelrahman and Zina said, “we are both continuing our careers in the industry. I (Abdelrahman) am working as a Structural Engineer at Wells Concrete, and Zina is working as a Bridge Engineer at WGI Engineering. We are excited to take the knowledge and experience we gained at UNL into our professional careers and continue learning and growing as engineers.”

Of their time at UNL, the couple said, “Our favorite memories are the experiences we shared with the many wonderful people we met during our time at UNL and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research. We are especially fortunate to have had the opportunity to study, conduct research, and graduate together as a family. Looking back, the people we met and the experiences we shared are what made our time at UNL so meaningful.”

Congratulations to Nitesh Adhikari, one of today’s featured . After graduation, Nitesh is, “joining Michael Baker International as a Civil Associate.” Thinking back on his experience at UNL, Nitesh said, “Some of my favorite memories are from time spent in the Haymarket, grabbing food, walking around, and unwinding with friends after long days on campus.”

Congratulations to Dr. Brennan Peace, one of today’s featured . After graduation, Brennan plans “to move from my internship at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory into a full-time Research Scientist role. I'm excited to take the skills I've built at UNL and carve out my own area of expertise in multimodal deep learning, and I believe ARL will give me that opportunity.”

Of his time at UNL, Brennan’s notes one of his favorite memories has to be the time spent in my advisor Dr. Riggan's office, going back and forth on new ways to align two domains. One of us would propose something far-fetched, walk through the reasoning, and then we'd take it apart together. Sometimes we'd talk ourselves out of it before we even got that far. Every so often the light bulb would flick on and the idea would just make sense. It's rewarding to let an idea run before proving it, which made the testing that much more exciting. Those moments are a big part of why I stayed in research.”

Nothing brings people together quite like free waffles! 🧇💛

This week, the College of Engineering community enjoyed Waffles with the College, hosted in partnership with UNL Dining Services and our embedded CAPS counselor. Faculty, staff, and students took a break from their busy day to connect over a delicious breakfast while celebrating the importance of community and well-being.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and to UNL Dining Services for providing the waffles!

An incredible way to celebrate a summer of discovery!

Yesterday, nearly 30 undergraduate researchers from across engineering disciplines showcased the projects they've been working on throughout their 10-week summer research experience. From visiting REU students to current UNL engineering students, each participant spent the summer collaborating with faculty and graduate student mentors to tackle meaningful research questions and develop new skills.

Congratulations to all of our student researchers on a successful summer! Thank you to the faculty and graduate student mentors who helped make these experiences possible.

We can't wait to see where your research journey takes you next! 💙❤️
