🎲🍕 Sometimes the best study break is a little friendly competition.

Recently, members of the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Rural Medicine Student Leadership Association (RMSLA) gathered for a game night filled with pizza, board games, and time to connect outside the classroom.

Medical school is about more than lectures and exams. It's also about building friendships, finding community, and taking time to recharge alongside classmates who understand the journey.

Thanks to FMIG and RMSLA for bringing students together for an evening of fun and connection!

🎪💛 Fun, friendship, and a whole lot of courage.

Recently, UAMS College of Medicine students volunteered at Carnival of Courage, a special event hosted by our close partner, Arkansas Children's Hospital, to celebrate and reconnect with pediatric hematology and oncology patients, their families, and the care teams who have supported them throughout their journeys.

Our students helped with games, prizes, food, dancing, and other activities, but more importantly, they helped create an afternoon filled with smiles, laughter, and community.

A special thank you to and the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team for hosting this wonderful tradition, and to our students who volunteered their time to help make the day memorable for everyone involved. 💛

Yesterday, UAMS celebrated a true full-circle moment: the investiture of C. Lowry Barnes, M.D., into the Harry P. Ward Chancellor's Distinguished Chair. 🏅

Once a UAMS College of Medicine student, now the Chancellor of the institution that helped shape him. Congratulations, Chancellor Barnes! We're honored to be led by a fellow graduate, and we couldn't be prouder to have you at the helm.

Congratulations, Shashank Kraleti, M.D., Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, and Isis Martel, M.S., of the department's Research and Evaluation Division, on receiving grant funding through the Arkansas Rural Health Transformation Program. 🎉

Dr. Kraleti leads "Transforming Obstetrical Care in Rural Arkansas," a program that will create a Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship at St. Bernards Healthcare in Jonesboro to train family physicians to care for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and after delivery.

Martel leads "Bridges to Care: Arkansas Rural Behavioral Health Workforce Collaborative," which will offer free, practical training and ongoing support to those who provide mental health and substance use services in rural Arkansas.

Teaching. Training. Healing. It's what we do best, and now we can do even more for our rural communities. Thank you, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders !💙

We're celebrating Dr. R. Whit Hall '73, who after more than 50 years is retiring as Professor of Pediatrics in the Neonatology Section at UAMS and neonatologist at Arkansas Children's.

Half a century. Think about that. Dr. Hall has spent his career caring for the tiniest, most fragile babies and training the physicians who will carry that work forward. His research on maternal opioid use and neonatal withdrawal has changed how NICUs care for babies going through withdrawal.

For decades, he's partnered with the March of Dimes to fight premature birth and infant mortality, work that earned him their Citizen of the Year award. The Arkansas Medical Society honored him with the Asklepion Lifetime Achievement Award. We think the real honor is every baby who made it home because of him.

Congratulations, Dr. Hall. Thank you for 50 years of showing up for the smallest among us. 👏💙
