If you plan to apply to UAMS COM this year — or later — you have a lot of support! Use this QR code to book a virtual meeting or a campus visit.

The COM Admissions Office holds standing virtual office hours/info sessions at 11 am on most Fridays. This is great if you are just getting started or have questions you don’t mind asking in front of a group. Let us know your interests in the form when you sign up, and we can invite current students or program reps to join the call.

Our Director of Admissions offers one-on-one admissions consultations/advising sessions as well. These are great if you have detailed questions about your coursework, pre-reqs, transcripts, application paperwork, etc. Availability is limited and meetings are first come, first served.

Campus Tours in Little Rock and Fayetteville are a great way to get a feel for life in the COM. We host them in Little Rock, for example, on most Fridays.

And you can meet with reps from our dual degree MD/MPH program.

We aim to support you at every stage of your application journey. Questions? [email protected]

Learn more about Dr. Catherine Kirkpatrick, who recently defended her dissertation and earned her Ph.D. as part of our dual M.D./Ph.D. Program. Congratulations!

Hometown: I graduated from DeWitt High School in Dewitt, Arkansas. I attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Dual Degree Journey: I started medical school in 2021 and joined the lab of Dr. Yong-Chen William Lu in 2023 within the Department of Pathology. My research focused on applying single-cell sequencing and bioinformatic approaches to study mitochondrial DNA in the context of T cell-mediated immunotherapy. The overall goal of my work was to enhance current T cell-based immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer.

Dissertation: “The multifaceted roles of mitochondrial DNA mutations in T cell-mediated immune responses against cancer.”

Clubs and Interests: I’m a member of SCOPE (Student Club on Pathology Education).

On Life as a Rising M3 in the : What I’m looking forward to during M3 and M4 is returning to the clinical side of medicine and interacting directly with patients. I’m excited to apply the skills I’ve learned during graduate school into my clinical training while continuing to learn and grow in my education.

Long-term Goals: My long-term goal is to become a physician-scientist pathologist who combines clinical practice with translational research.

Life Outside of School: When I’m not at school or at home with my cat, Ernie, I am usually at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts throwing clay on the pottery wheel. I began taking ceramics classes at the museum when I started graduate school. Since then, I’ve become obsessed with ceramics and creating pottery
