Bishop Robert Rudolph is carrying two jobs of great responsibility.

He is a chairman of the seven-member Arkansas State University System board of trustees and a chief recording and records officer of the Church Of God In Christ Inc.

Our 50th anniversary documentary tells the story of ASU-Newport through the voices of the people who helped build it—from our beginning as White River Vocational Technical School in 1976 to the growing institution we are today.

Hytrol Conveyor Company today committed a $500,000 gift to become the founding industry partner for the Career Readiness Education and Skills Training (CREST) Center under construction at Arkansas State University.

The ASU System Board of Trustees recently named the primary workforce training space in the CREST Center in recognition of the company. The Hytrol Workforce Training Room will be part of phase one of the three-phase building process.

“CREST was never intended to be something A-State could build alone,” said A-State Interim Chancellor Calvin White Jr. “Its success depends upon bringing education and industry together around a common goal: creating more opportunities for the people of Northeast Arkansas while building the workforce needed for the future.”

The CREST Center is a collaborative workforce project that includes A-State, ASU-Newport and Arkansas Northeastern College in addition to regional employers and partners. The $18 million phase one of construction will be a 26,000-square-foot facility, expected to be completed by spring 2027, with classes beginning in fall 2027.

We remember the legacy of Velmar Richmond, who served on the ASU System Board of Trustees from 1996-2001.

The Arkansas State University community extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and former colleagues of Velmar Richmond of Jonesboro, who died Aug. 8.

Among her many contributions to the university, she was an adviser to the Eta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and she often made campus presentations based on her background in education. One of the buildings in The Circle residential complex on the west side of campus is named Richmond Hall, in memory of the couple and their campus and community leadership.

The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be darkened Friday evening, Sept. 25, in memorial tribute to Richmond for her contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University.

ASU-Mountain Home announced the creation of the Dr. Roger Simons Promise Scholarship, a transformative investment that will expand access to higher education for graduates of four North Central Arkansas school districts.

The announcement was made during a special event at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center. The scholarship is made possible through a generous gift from Dr. Roger Simons and will establish Promise scholarship opportunities for eligible graduates of Cotter, Flippin, Norfork, and Yellville-Summit High Schools who choose to attend ASUMH.

Beginning with the 2027 graduating classes, eligible students will receive scholarship support covering remaining tuition and mandatory fee costs after federal, state, and institutional financial aid has been applied.
