UAMS College of Nursing The College of Nursing, a CCNE accredited institution, provides baccalaureate, master’s, DNP and PhD programs to over 600 students.

The UAMS College of Nursing is committed to scholarly excellence in (1) undergraduate and graduate nursing education, (2) research, and (3) service to the University, profession, and society. The College has faculty practice programs in pediatrics, primary care, women’s health, gerontology, family psych and mental health, and genetics. The faculty are national and regional leaders and their achievements include presidents of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Southern Nursing Research Society, and the Southern Regional Education Board Council of Collegiate Education in Nursing. The College has a Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence. Research focus areas include cardiovascular, sleep, gerontology, forensic nursing, and cancer.

UAMS College of Nursing Welcomes Inaugural Cohort of State’s First Nurse-Midwifery Program

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing this fall is pleased to welcome the inaugural cohort of its Nurse-Midwifery Program, the first of its kind in the state. The master’s-level degree program will help aspiring nurse-midwives reach the workforce after 2½ years of graduate training.

Supporting survivors is part of healthcare.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact of domestic violence on individuals, families, and communities—and the important role nurses play in responding to violence.

At the UAMS College of Nursing, we know healthcare professionals have a responsibility not only to recognize violence, but also to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care and connect survivors with the support they need.
We are grateful for Arkansas organizations like the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Women & Children First, whose new Forest of Hope Family Peace Center in Little Rock is bringing critical services together under one roof.
Together, we can build stronger, more coordinated responses that put survivors' needs first.

A historic milestone for maternal health. A new chapter for nursing. A healthier future for Arkansas!

Today, the UAMS College of Nursing proudly celebrated the historic launch of Arkansas's FIRST Nurse-Midwifery Program! 🎓👏🏽

This is more than the launch of a new nursing program. It is about expanding opportunities, strengthening our healthcare workforce, and improving access to quality maternal and women's healthcare across Arkansas.

❤️ One of the most meaningful moments of today's celebration was hearing the powerful stories of two of our nurse-midwifery students. Their personal birth experiences inspired their passion for maternal health and their commitment to making a difference for Arkansas women and families.

Partnerships Make Progress Possible!

We extend our sincere appreciation to Representative Mary Bentley and Representative Howard Beaty for their leadership and support in securing funding to help make this program possible.

FACT: You may apply while finishing eligible prerequisite coursework, as long as all requirements are completed by the required deadline.
