Great progress is being made on our Happy Canyon Creek restoration project in RidgeGate in the City of Lone Tree. Phases 2–4 are currently under construction, and planting is well underway. Wetland plugs, riparian and upland trees and shrubs, native grasses, and forbs are helping restore biodiversity, stabilize streambanks, and create habitat throughout the corridor.
The sculpted concrete drop structures are a great example of collaboration between designers, engineers, and contractors – Mile High Flood District, Merrick, ERO Resources, and CEI. The team’s goal was to mimic the claystone bedrock naturally found along this reach of the creek. Architerra worked with Merrick to reduce the amount of exposed concrete and develop forms that feel integrated with the surrounding landscape. We also collaborated with the team at CEI to create a texture that closely replicates the appearance of in-place claystone.
The result is a series of drop structures that feel contextual to the site, support natural stream processes, and allow passage for aquatic invertebrates and other wildlife. It’s a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
