The search for Bridgerland Technical College’s next president is officially underway!

The Utah Board of Higher Education is now accepting applications and nominations for BTECH’s next president.

Thank you to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, local employers, and community members who shared their input throughout the process. Your feedback helped shape the Presidential Leadership Profile and the qualities the search committee will look for as it evaluates candidates.

Our Building Trades Department students have been hard at work bringing this 30' x 14' (420 sq. ft.) house to life—one step at a time.

✅ Electrical (completed by our Electrical Apprenticeship students!)
✅ Doors & windows installed

🏡 Cement siding & exterior paint

Every phase is another opportunity for students to gain real-world, hands-on experience while building skills they'll use throughout their careers. We can't wait to share the finished project!

🎓 BTECH Alumni Spotlight: Caitlyn Whitaker 🦷✨

For Caitlyn Whitaker, a future in healthcare was something she dreamed about from a young age. After learning about BTECH, she joined the Dental Department the summer before her junior year of high school — and quickly fell in love with the dental field.

Her time at BTECH gave her an early start in the industry, helped build her confidence, and ultimately inspired her goal of becoming a dentist.

Today, Caitlyn lives in Salt Lake City and attends the University of Utah, where she is studying biology with a minor in chemistry. Along with being a full-time student, she works as a dental assistant at Murray Orthodontics and Lilac Dental and as a research assistant for the Exploring Living Dinosaurs Lab at the University of Utah. 🧬🦷

Looking back, Caitlyn says every day she came to BTECH, she wasn’t just showing up for herself — she was showing up for her future patients.

Her advice to future students is a powerful reminder:

“Don’t give in to imposter syndrome.”

There were times Caitlyn questioned whether she was good enough or confident enough for the field, but she kept going. Now, she’s continuing her education, gaining valuable experience, and working toward her goal of dental school.

We’re excited to see where your journey takes you next, Caitlyn! 🖤👏

🏆 Congratulations to BTECH’s Teacher of the Year, Jared Sturm! 🏆

Jared, an instructor in our Paramedic Department, consistently goes above and beyond to support his students and help them succeed. 🚑

He is known for providing clear, accurate instruction, being available when students need additional support, and creating a learning environment where students are treated with respect. Jared takes the time to review student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and help students understand where they can continue to grow.

His organization, preparation, and dedication to his students are just a few of the many reasons we’re proud to recognize him as this year’s BTECH Teacher of the Year! 🖤👏

Congratulations, Jared, and thank you for the impact you continue to make on our students and the future of the paramedic profession!

💙 Platinum Performert | Josie Hansen 💙

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow—and Josie Hansen has embraced every step of the journey. 🌟

Wanting to expand her healthcare knowledge through hands-on learning, Josie chose BTECH's Medical Department, where she discovered just how much she was capable of accomplishing. One of her proudest moments was mastering the skills that challenged her the most, proving that persistence pays off. 💪🩺

Inspired by her sister, a Medical Assistant, Josie's goal is to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse. 👶❤️

Her advice to future students:
✨ "Push yourself and work hard!"

Along the way, Josie has gained valuable healthcare experience, built lifelong friendships, and developed the confidence to pursue her dream career.

🎓 BTECH Alumni Spotlight: Allie Griffin 🥩

Allie Griffin’s BTECH journey started while she was still in high school. After graduating early from Logan High and needing additional credits, she decided to try something unique — BTECH’s Meat Services Department. That decision ended up helping shape her future career!

After being accepted as a full-time student, earning a scholarship, and completing the program, Allie took the skills she learned at BTECH straight into the workforce. At just 18 years old, she stepped into the role of Meat Manager at Macey’s in Providence, where she has now worked for two years.

From understanding different cuts and answering customer questions to training employees and leading a team, Allie says her BTECH experience prepared her for much more than simply cutting meat.

One of the things she values most is now having the opportunity to teach and inspire others — just like her instructors, Jason, Scottie, and Clint, did for her. 🖤

Her advice to future students?

“Just have fun. Take the risk of failing… make all the mistakes. There is always a way to fix it, and it’s a good way to learn.”

Allie says she would choose the program all over again, calling it “one of the best things I’ve ever chosen to do.”
