USU alum Jen Day helped fuel the U.S. Speedskating Team at the 2026 Winter Olympics, ensuring athletes had the nutrition they needed to perform at their best. After earning her bachelor's degree in dietetics and doctorate in nutrition and food sciences from Utah State, Day specialized in sports nutrition under the mentorship of Heidi Wengreen. Today, she's putting that expertise to work on one of the world's biggest stages.

From Logan to the Olympics — that's the power of a QANR education.

From canal troublemakers to habitat heroes. 🦫🐴

Six nuisance beavers got a fresh start near Bear Lake, where their engineering skills can help restore riverscapes and improve wildlife habitat. With rugged terrain blocking vehicle access, these ecosystem engineers made the journey the old-fashioned way—by horse.

Through the USU Beaver Ecology & Relocation Collaborative, nuisance beavers are safely trapped, transported and relocated to places where their natural engineering can improve degraded waterways.

Huge thanks to our partners for making beaver relocation and restoration possible across the West.

Wildlife is more than a victim of climate change — it's part of the solution.

Utah State ecologist Trisha Atwood joined 287 scientists from around the world in a landmark consensus calling for wildlife to be recognized as a critical component of climate policy. Their message: healthy animal populations help support carbon storage, ecosystem resilience and a more sustainable future.

Learn how wildlife can be a powerful climate ally. 🌎🐏

Trisha Atwood in USU's Department of Watershed Sciences is part of the global effort that resulted in a call on governments to explicitly include wildlife and their ecological roles in climate policy.

Critical minerals. Real-world research. Student impact.

Through a new partnership with Mithril Mining Corp., USU geoscience students and faculty are helping evaluate surface tungsten-bearing material at the historic Calvert Tungsten Mine in Montana. Their work will support future resource assessments while providing hands-on experience in exploration, geochemical analysis, and applied economic geology.

As demand grows for domestic sources of critical minerals, projects like this are helping develop both the knowledge and workforce needed to support America's resource future.
