On November 13 and 14, 2021, Las Vegas Field Office will offer more than 1,400 cacti and yucca for sale that were salvaged from within the Las Vegas Valley where they would otherwise have been destroyed by construction. Plants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. those two days. Harvesting any plants, including cacti, yucca and Joshua trees, from public lands is illegal without a permit. Permits for these plants are being issued by BLM because the plants would otherwise be destroyed by construction activity within the Las Vegas Valley. Available plants include golden/silver cholla, pencil cholla, cottontop cactus, barrel cactus, Engelman’s hedgehog cactus, beavertail cactus and Mojave yucca. Learn outdoor skills and experience the beauty of Nevada’s natural resources!

We are excited to start our new program to improve physical and mental health by being outdoors together.

The two-day programs kick off with a class on Friday to provide education on the current topic, followed by an activity related to the class on Saturday.

You MUST attend the class to participate in the activity.

Everything is better when you enjoy it with a buddy; these classes rely on the Buddy System for safety and support. Each signup must include at least two people – either a parent and child (over the age of 9) or two adults.

Our 1st class is: Hiking Gold Butte

Class: October 01, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Extension Office

Activity: October 02, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Details will be provided at the class

There is a $5 non-refundable class fee per Buddy Pair, and snacks will be provided.

Register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nevada-outdoors-together-hiking-tickets-176672902407

Due to limited space, only 5 Buddy Pairs will be accepted.

Best with a sturdy vehicle.

INVASIVE JUMPING WORMS LEAP INTO OREGON

"Jumping worms, a not-so-nice pest that arrived in the United States in the 1920s as fishing bait and as hitchhikers on imported plants and soils, have vaulted into gardens and nurseries up and down the Willamette Valley corridor."
