LLUSN faculty and collaborators were recently recognized at the 27th Annual Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) & Nursing Research Conference hosted by Loma Linda University Health.

We are proud to celebrate Professor Nancy Wolfe and the interdisciplinary team whose poster presentation, “Shaping Compassionate Nurses: IPE in End-of-Life Care,” received 1st place in the Nursing Research poster division.

This project emerged from a newly developed interprofessional education (IPE) event integrated into the Critical Care course. In collaboration with the School of Medicine, Child Life program, and chaplaincy, the initiative was designed to help students better support patients and families during end-of-life care through compassionate communication, presence, and whole-person care.

We would also like to recognize the full project team for their contributions: Nancy Wolfe, Brandie Richards, Kassy Miller, Amy Hayton, Carrie Cobos, Lisa Hanson, Salem Dehom, and Paige Stevens.

In addition, Professor Nancy Wolfe and Professor Courtney Tran were selected to deliver a podium presentation after their abstract was recognized among the conference’s top submissions. Their presentation, “Reimagining Spiritual Care Education: Modeling Spiritual Care in Practice,” highlighted collaborative work focused on strengthening spiritual care education within nursing practice.

These achievements reflect the meaningful impact of interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice, and research that prepares nurses to care with both clinical excellence and compassion.

As commencement approaches, we’re celebrating the creativity and stories behind some of our Spring 2026 graduation caps.

Each cap design reflects more than decoration—it represents the experiences, challenges, encouragement, and purpose that helped carry these students through their nursing education journey. From meaningful quotes to personal reminders of why they chose nursing, these small details reflect the heart behind this milestone.

We look forward to celebrating the Class of Spring 2026 at commencement on June 14 as they prepare to take the next step into the nursing profession!

On May 17, LLUSN students and faculty participated in the 8th Annual “Stand Up to Stigma” 5K hosted by LLU Behavioral Health, joining nearly 900 community participants in support of mental health awareness.

This event reflects the importance of creating conversations and communities that support mental well-being with compassion and understanding. As future nurses and healthcare professionals, opportunities like these reinforce the value of advocacy, presence, and whole-person care both inside and outside clinical settings.

We are grateful to all who participated and represented LLUSN in supporting this meaningful cause!

LLUSN students, faculty, and families recently gathered at the Drayson Center for the ASN Pool Party—an evening centered on community, connection, and time together outside of the classroom.

The event included food, games, swimming, and opportunities for students to build relationships and enjoy moments of rest and fellowship during a busy quarter. Activities like these help foster the supportive community that is such an important part of the student experience at LLUSN.

We are grateful to everyone who helped organize and participate in an evening that encouraged connection, joy, and meaningful community among students and faculty!

This Sabbath, we reflect on the importance of creating space for rest, spiritual renewal, and meaningful connection.

Students recently gathered for a “Glow and Grow” vespers evening at Dr. Richards’ home—a time centered on worship, fellowship, and whole-person well-being. The evening included worship led by General Council Chris Johnston, healthy food and fresh-made juice, thoughtful conversation, and opportunities for students to slow down and reconnect with one another outside the demands of the academic quarter.

Students also enjoyed moments of joy and community through simple activities, including making face masks, spending time outdoors, and even visits with several birds that were shared during the evening.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Sabbath reminds us that rest is not only about stepping away from work, but about being renewed through community, reflection, and the presence of God.

This past weekend, our Associated Student Nurses gathered at Corona Del Mar for Beach Vespers — an evening of faith, food, and real community.

From tug-of-war and sandcastle building to worship as the sun went down, it was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. Nursing school is hard. But the people you walk through it with make all the difference.

To everyone who came out, thank you for bringing your whole self to the sand. Moments like these are part of what shape a nurse who not only knows their craft but genuinely cares for the people in their life.

We are so grateful for this community. 💙

We are honored to celebrate Dr. Iris Mamier, recipient of the 2026 Spiritual Life Service Award for Loma Linda University School of Nursing.

This award recognizes individuals who exemplify whole-person care through their personal, professional, and academic life. Dr. Mamier’s career and leadership reflect a deep commitment to integrating spiritual care, compassion, scholarship, and service into nursing education and practice.

As a contributor to the development of the LLU Whole Person Care Model, Dr. Mamier has helped shape the way whole-person care is understood and lived out across the university community. She is widely known as a thoughtful spiritual leader, mentor, and educator whose presence creates space for others to feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Her influence also extends globally through her commitment to advancing Adventist nursing and empowering colleagues and students around the world. Through scholarship, mentorship, and relational leadership, Dr. Mamier continues to model nursing care that honors both body and spirit.

We are deeply grateful for her lasting impact on LLUSN and the many lives she has shaped through compassionate leadership and service.

Congratulations, Dr. Mamier, on this meaningful and well-deserved recognition!

The LLUSN community gathered for a Plant Positive lunch centered on nourishment, connection, and fellowship.

Events like these offer students an opportunity to step away from the demands of the quarter, share a meal together, and invest in wellness in meaningful and practical ways. Caring for the whole person includes creating space for rest, community, and healthy habits that support both body and spirit.

We are grateful to the Spiritual Life and Wholeness Committee for helping make this gathering possible and for continuing to support opportunities that foster connection within the LLUSN community.

Sabbath gives us a sacred pause in a life that often moves quickly. For those in nursing, caregiving, or study, it can feel natural to keep pushing forward without stopping. Yet God’s invitation is not to keep carrying everything endlessly. It is to be still and remember who is truly in control.

Stillness is not weakness. It is trust. It is the quiet confidence that God is present even when we stop striving. In that pause, we are reminded that our identity is not built on productivity, and our strength does not come only from effort. God restores what constant motion can drain.

Sabbath invitation:

1. Step away from one source of noise or distraction.
2. Sit quietly and breathe slowly for a few minutes.
3. Release one burden into God’s care before the week begins.

May this Sabbath help you rest in God’s presence and return to the week with renewed peace!

LLUSN was pleased to welcome students from the Patriot High School Medical Pathways program for a visit to campus.

Experiences like these offer students an opportunity to learn more about nursing education, healthcare careers, and the role compassionate, whole-person care plays in serving individuals and communities.

We are always encouraged to meet future healthcare students who are already exploring pathways in service, leadership, and patient care. It was a privilege to introduce them to the LLUSN community and share more about the nursing profession.

We look forward to seeing how these students continue to grow as future healthcare professionals!
