🏡 Building Homes, Fostering Innovation, & Connecting Communities: Continuing our Community Partner Narrative series ✨

Linc Housing has been building affordable, service-enriched housing for unhoused and underserved families across California for the past 40 years! LINC isn’t just providing a roof over people’s heads but has also created a collaborative relationship with CSULB student interns 🧑‍🎓 as they bring a brand new perspective to design, launch, and run original workshops that can directly help the local residents. 🏘️

Maria Garcia, a College Corps recent graduate, turned her passion for baking into a weekly baking workshop. The baking class was a huge success, attracting residents who had never attended previous community events.

Maria’s time at LINC completely changed how she viewed professional networking, learning how to build authentic relationships with people and the community who can rely on one another. After graduating, Maria has now become a staff member for LINC Housing! Congratulations! 🥳🎓

🍎 Rescuing Food, Reducing Hunger, & Empowering Students: First of our Community Partner Narrative series ✨

Our incredible community partner Food Finders has been on a single mission: to eliminate hunger and food waste across Southern California. What started as a kitchen-table operation in 1989 has grown into one of the region’s largest food rescue nonprofits, partnering with 600 food donors to deliver fresh food to 300 nonprofits the very same day! 🚚🥦

Food Finders is a dynamic classroom for CSULB students looking to make a real-world difference through programs like College Corps @ The Beach and Service-Learning by taking on essential initiatives while developing dynamic skills. 🧑‍🏫

Take a look at Josephine Nguyen, a second year College Corps fellow and International Studies major who has progressed from managing special events to working directly on crucial fund development and grants. Her supervisor notes that she has gained so much experience, Food Finders hopes to hire her right after graduation! 🎓⭐️

Service Learning students in Dr. Tina Chanthapan’s JOUR 471: Public Relations (PR), Management & Campaigns (Spring 2026) partnered with City Fabrick to gain hands on experience creating and pitching campaigns by forming PR firms. Each team conducted in-depth research while collaborating with City Fabrick staff, Baktaash & Cassidy, to align with organizational goals and create a strategic, research-driven campaign to enhance visibility and community impact. Equipped with printed material mock ups, stickers, posters, and proposal booklets, they pitched each campaign where “Emerald Agency” was selected by City Fabrick for implementation and alignment. Fantastic work this semester!

Our 2025-2026 Student Assistants are an integral part of the CCE. They assist us in preparation for events, answering student questions in person and online, and bringing a sense of community to our space. We are always lucky to have them for one academic year, but the majority of our students stay with us until they graduate and we are so grateful for that. Join us in wishing them all a safe and enjoyable summer whether they’ll be joining us next year or beginning their next endeavor post CSULB! 🥳
