In Summer 2007, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) was one of the first campuses in the California State University system to offer an independent doctoral program, Ed. This

program represents a major achievement and advancement in the history of higher education in California and addresses the demand for highly qualified educational leaders for P-12 school districts and community colleges. Representatives from P-12 school districts and community colleges work collaboratively with CSULB faculty and administrators to design, implement, and evaluate this program. Our Vision

To build a dynamic, rigorous, and inclusive doctoral program that prepares leaders to make remarkable differences in the educational lives of others. Educational Leadership in the Community College/Higher Education
Students are admitted each summer term
Classes begin in June
Cohort model
Full-time study is required
7-9 units each semester
Summer study is required
60 unit program designed to be completed in 3 years
Intended for working professionals
classes are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends
coursework designed to accommodate and benefit from the full-time employment of program participants

Congratulations Jecenia Vera of Cohort 17 on being a 2026-27 Opportunity Fellow through Harvard University’s Opportunity Insights Teacher Fellowship Program!!

This inaugural cohort brings together 24 educators teaching 6 subjects spanning economics, statistics, data science, social studies, ELA, and CTE. Fellows represent a range of public, charter schools and independent schools across 10 states and Canada, reaching students from kindergarten – 12th grade.

Candi Marsh of Cohort 18 was selected to be a panelist for Prioritizing Foster Youth in Student Housing: An Action Summit for LACCD and Partners! This summit will bring together leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies and solutions focused on supporting current and former foster youth through student housing initiatives. The goal is to help transform the foster care-to-homelessness pipeline into a foster care-to-prosperity pipeline. The event is from 9am-1pm at June 11th at LATTC, the link to RSVP is in our bio?

Congratulations to Robert Moushon of Cohort 16 on receiving the Leo and Margaret Goodman-Malamuth Dissertation Award from the American Association of University Administrators (AAUA)! AAUA only issues two awards annually for recent doctoral dissertations in the field of higher education— this is huge! Dr. Moushon’s dissertation, titled “Executive Academic Leadership’s Role in Governing Generative AI Use” was presented in 2025 and chaired by Dr. O’Brien. Go beach alumni!
