Consortium member, Prof. Wendy Cheng is offering a new Asian American Studies class this fall 2026. AMST 378 takes a global and transpacific approach to understanding the history of Asian immigration to the U.S. and how Asian Americans have participated in shaping what it means to be American. Through exploring a variety of materials including local archives, museum exhibits, art, novels, and films, students will learn how to do historical research and complete an independent project on a topic of their choice.

Wind is Our Teacher: Sea Grape Consciousness at the Edge of the World

Alexis Pauline Gumbs is a Q***r Black Feminist Love Evangelist and an aspirational cousin to all life. She is/they are the author of several books, most recently Survival is a Promise: The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde and the award-winning Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals. She is/they are the co-founder of the Mobile Homecoming Trust, an intergenerational experiential living library of Black LBGTQ brilliance.

Comedy Workshop - Want to learn how to write a joke? Join River Butcher and Solomon Georgio as they help participants understand the form and performance of stand-up, as well as explore comedy’s role in q***r culture.

Join the Departments of Gender & Sexuality Studies, French and Italian, and Anthropology, and the School of Cinematic Arts in welcoming q***r disabled experimental South African filmmaker Shelley Barry to USC for a screening of a selection of her award-winning short films, including a sneak peek of her latest film focused on trans youth across southern Africa, “Record!”

Screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. Barry herself,
moderated by Dr. Julie Van Dam and Dr. Mlondi Zondi.
