LA looks a little different without cars! 🚲

On Sunday, thousands of Angelenos took to the streets for CicLAvia: Heart of LA, a free community event that transforms busy roads into spaces for biking, walking, skating, and exploring.

With 6.5 miles of car-free streets connecting Downtown LA, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights, and Echo Park, the event brought communities together and gave Angelenos a chance to experience their city in a whole new way. Leadership, connection and professional growth took center stage at Cal State LA during the 2026 ACE Women’s Network Southern California Annual Conference.

Higher education professionals from across the region gathered for a day of conversation, networking and reflection focused on advancing leadership in higher education. The conference featured nine-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Giselle Fernandez as keynote speaker, along with opportunities for attendees to strengthen connections and invest in their professional development.

Today, recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honors the histories, cultures, knowledge and enduring contributions of Indigenous communities.

This year’s theme, “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being,” recognizes the vital role Indigenous midwives play in supporting families, preserving traditional knowledge and strengthening the health and well-being of their communities across generations.

We join in honoring Indigenous peoples and the caregivers, knowledge keepers and community leaders who continue this important work.

The Cal State LA Afro-Latin Ensemble is bringing salsa to the State Playhouse on Wednesday, Oct. 14, for a night of live music and dancing! 💃🕺

Come early for free salsa lessons before the show, then stick around as the ensemble takes the stage with music rooted in Afro-Latin traditions, including salsa, cumbia, bachata, samba and more. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Civic engagement was in full swing at Cal State LA’s VoterFest 2026! 🗳️✨

Students recently came together for voter registration and election resources, art activities, food, music from Golden Eagle Radio, and the Ballot Bowl challenge -- all in celebration of National Voter Registration Day.

Hosted by the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs and Associated Students, Inc., VoterFest helped connect Golden Eagles with the information and resources they need to participate in the Nov. 3 general election.

Calling artists across the Cal State LA community! 🎨

President Berenecea Johnson Eanes invites students, faculty, staff and alumni to submit original artwork for the official 2026 Cal State LA holiday card.

This year’s theme, One LA, One Path Forward, celebrates the people, connections and shared spirit that move our University community forward. Submissions may include painting, photography, collage, digital illustration and other creative mediums.

The winning artist will receive a $500 gift card, credit on the holiday card and recognition at the Holiday Celebration.

Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
