Brain Research Institute at UCLA The BRI is the umbrella organization for neurosciences at UCLA The BRI created and runs the Interdepartmental Ph.D.

The BRI has nearly 300 members drawn from 27 different departments at UCLA, from six different schools. Our projects span traditional disciplinary boundaries, as do our graduate and postdoctoral training programs. Program for Neuroscience, the largest such interdepartmental program at UCLA. In addition to our teaching and research, the BRI also supports neuroscience education outreach activities on campus and in local schools.

🚨 Attention, UCLA neuroscientists! 🚨

The BRI Knaub Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis Research application is now LIVE! Two lucky applicants will be awarded up to $10,000 to be used toward MS-related projects following a gift from Knaub Unitrust, generously established by Richard and Suzanne Knaub, in support of MS research at UCLA.

Applications are now available to support undergraduate scholars! All qualified students and researchers are encouraged to apply -- however, first-time applicants will receive precedence over past recipients.

Applications MUST include:

(1) The applicant's NIH CV and a mentor's NIH CV with personal statements related to this award
(2) A description (up to two pages) of the background, aims, and scope of the project (generally in NIH fellowship application format)
(3) A brief budget and justification on the intended use of the funds (up to $10,000)

Criteria for funding include:

(1) Innovative research ideas and technologies with relevance to MS or fundamental biology of the relevant cell types and circuits
(2) Likelihood of the research proposal impacting MS research
(3) Pertinence of mentor expertise and relevance to student training of the proposed work
(4) Multidisciplinary projects will be favored, but all ideas and projects will be considered. The use of UCLA cores is encouraged but not critical. We will support research and not salaries.
(5) Applicants may be asked to give a short 10-minute talk on their project to the Selection Committee if multiple applicants are being considered in the end.

The BRI Carol Moss Spivak scholarship application is now LIVE! Two lucky postdoctoral scholars / researchers will be awarded up to $25,000 to be used toward research expenditures for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Funding can be used toward conference travel, equipment, experiment-running costs, and other justifiable research expenses. This scholarship runs for one year and there is no citizenship requirement.

Applications MUST include:

(1) Curriculum vitae, including career plans
(2) NIH-format biosketch
(3) A one- to two-page description of the background, aims, and scope of the project
(4) A brief budget and justification for fund usage (up to $25,000)
