This summer, UCLA School of Law Executive Education was proud to partner with Summer Discovery to offer an immersive "Trial Law & Advocacy" program for high school students.
Over two intensive weeks, students stepped into the role of trial attorneys, learning how to craft persuasive opening statements, conduct direct and cross-examinations, make objections, present evidence, and deliver compelling closing arguments through hands-on exercises and mock trials.
A program highlight was a field trip to the Beverly Hills Courthouse, where students observed live courtroom proceedings and engaged in meaningful conversations with judicial officers and court staff, providing an authentic look inside the justice system.
The program was led by Prof. John Henry, Director of Trial Advocacy Programs at Loyola Law School and former Chief Deputy District Attorney, whose decades of courtroom and advocacy experience gave students invaluable insight into the art of trial practice.
Perhaps the greatest measure of success came from our students and families: "We could not be more pleased with the program and its benefit to our daughter. She discovered a genuine interest in law, came home excited every day, and grew both academically and socially. We have become Summer Discovery advocates and will be telling everyone we know about its benefits."
