🎮 E-sports are booming! In 2022, the e-sports market generated an impressive 1.1 billion USD in the United States 🇺🇸. For some time now, the e-sports hype has also been felt in South Korea 🇰🇷. After all, the country is arguably THE homeland of e-sports worldwide. In South Korea, as well as in the USA, e-sports are officially recognized as a form of sport.

Large companies are investing heavily and are expanding their sponsoring. There are more and more professional gamers who can make a living from e-sports, for example the 19-year-old Austrian Maximilian Otter.

At the end of this summer, we’ll have to say goodbye to our Deputy Trade Commissioner in NY, Stefan Stantejsky. Stefan will return to our HQ in Vienna to work in the department for Asia & Oceania.

Also leaving New York is the Deputy Consul at the Austrian Consulate General, Thorsten Eisingerich. Together with Consul General Helene Steinhaeusl and Trade Commissioner Peter Hasslacher, Stefan and Thorsten just had their last regular get-together in the Big Apple 🍎. Their next meeting will be over big apple strudel and coffee in Vienna 😄☕️

While the team at ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA USA is sad to see Stefan leave, we – especially Peter – can’t help but notice with satisfaction that efforts over the past two years trying to turn Stefan once again into an avid tennis player have paid off 🎾👏

We are happy to share that Daniel Sittenthaler has been part of our team at the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC since the beginning of July.

Daniel is 23 years old and studied Entrepreneurship at JKU - Johannes Kepler Universität Linz and at Emory University in Atlanta (exchange year program). He has co-founded two businesses in Austria and is going to start his Master in Global Business this fall as a part of an international program at universities in Austria, Canada and Taiwan.

“The opportunity to work abroad at the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy has been highly insightful. On the one hand, it is great to get to know the political and economic landscape in DC and to participate in embassy events, think tanks and more. On the other hand, establishing new relationships with people around the world has been truly remarkable. Both aspects will essentially benefit my future career and I am grateful to gain this experience here in the US capital.”

👋 Introducing our new interns at the Austrian Trade Commission! 👋 We're excited to introduce Clemens Hacker and Luca Nekvinda, our new interns joining us at the Austrian Trade Commission in New York City for the summer.

Both bachelor students from WU (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien), they recently completed their exchange semesters in the United States. Clemens studied at Bentley University, while Luca attended UT Austin. Our interns will be working with us to promote Austrian businesses and strengthen economic ties between Austria and the United States. Their fresh perspectives and dedication will contribute to our mission of fostering international trade .

A high-level Upper Austrian business delegation led by State Minister Markus Achleitner and the Austrian Ambassador Petra Schneebauer visited the U.S. states of North Caroline, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The delegation trip’s tightly packed program included visits of subsidiaries of Upper Austrian firms and other leading companies in the region, a groundbreaking ceremony at STIWA US Inc., networking events with local stakeholders & decisionmakers, and the signing of a MoU on economic development and dual education system cooperation between South Carolina (Upstate SC Alliance) and Upper Austria (Business Upper Austria).

We thank everybody involved in the organization of this delegation visit for their strong support – especially all our local partners in Charlotte, Greenville, and Atlanta! Upper Austria – the industrial heartland of Austria – and the emerging industrial powerhouses in the Carolinas and Georgia are natural . We look forward to a further deepening of this economic partnership in the days to come!
