Beta Theta Pi – University of Southern California

Beta Theta Pi – University of Southern California Welcome to the Gamma Tau chapter of Beta Theta Pi located at the University of Southern California.

Amongst our variety of endeavors we strive for excellence and balance, while continuing to bring the best of USC and Greek life together under one roof. Beta Theta Pi is a Brotherhood organization at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles that is composed of over 80 active brothers who strive to be Men of Principle. With the help of Southern California Alumni Association and notable

Chapter Advisor Rufus Bernhard VonKleinsmid, the Beta colony was founded in 1947. We actively emphasize the importance of academics, leadership, philanthropy, and social success.

For the fourth year in a row, our chapter will be spending this month fundraising for the Movember Foundation USA. Because of the passionate efforts shown by our active membership, supplemented by support from our gracious alumni, we have been the #1 undergraduate fundraising group in the nation for the Movember Foundation for three consecutive years. We reached $24,000 for the month of November last year, and this year we are trying to eclipse that by raising $30,000.

The Movember Foundation is a global charity raising funds and awareness for men’s health. These funds deliver breakthrough research and support services to allow men to live happier, healthier, and longer lives. Since 2003, 5 million people have joined the men’s health movement, raising $710 million and funding over 1000 programs through impact investments, focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and su***de prevention.

Being able to be a part of this fraternity is a blessing and a luxury most men will never get to experience. We have an incredible support system for each brother’s specific physical, emotional and mental needs, whereas men outside the fraternity will struggle to get the help they need because of an absence of brotherhood in their lives. With that in mind, please consider donating to our Movember fundraising page at https://us.movember.com/team/2233564

Fraternally,
The Brothers of the Gamma Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi

Thanks to the tireless work of Alumni Relations Chairmen Coby Crosby '16 and Xavier Di Petta '19, USC Beta received the Outstanding Alumni Relations Award as well as an honorable mention for Historical Preservation at Beta Theta Pi's 177th General Convention!

(Tennis Champ Receives Fraternal 50) Stan Smith, Southern California '69, won the US Open in 1971 and Wimbledon in 1972, including five Grand Slam doubles championships, besting the likes of Arthur Ashe and John McEnroe. And his lifelong friend and Beta brother Tom Fey, Miami '68 (right), has cheered him on all along the way.

That's probably what made the recent in-person presentation of Stan's Fraternal 50 at his home in Hilton Head so meaningful. Beta brotherhood knows no chapter boundaries. And boy, time sure flies, doesn't it?

Congratulations, Stan, and thanks for making this happen in such a personal manner, Tom. (Third-generation Beta Brian Fey, Miami '00, pictured left.)

For the upcoming USC Undergraduate Student Government Senate elections, we have endorsed three great candidates:
Josh Lurie for USG Senate, Leena Danpour For USG Senate, and Daniel Newman for USG Senate! Each is highly qualified and would represent our interests as students and as members of the USC Greek system well. Take a moment to vote for these candidates at http://elections.usc.edu/VoteNow.asp

Brothers Ari Mandell (President), Coby Crosby (Alumni Relations Chair), Justin Camhi (Secretary), and Owen Ritter had a great afternoon meeting with our oldest living alumni, Roger Jayne ( #4). We presented him with his 50 year Beta pin and enjoyed learning more information and hearing stories about our chapter's history. It's a great day to be a Beta!

We’re excited to announce that this year we have raised a whopping $18,404. This means that, in a two year period, we have raised over $33,700. The men of Beta Theta Pi – Gamma Tau couldn’t have done this without the support of our family, friends, strangers, and one another.
Movember is a time to reflect on what we are thankful for, and to give back to those who may be less fortunate. We are happy to support a cause that speaks up about the issues of Men’s health, which are so often stigmatized and kept hidden away from others. The Movember message is simple: be proactive about the health of all men in your life, including you. Early detection and treatment of many men’s health issues can have a significant impact on their prognosis. Still, there are many leaps and bounds to be made in the research and understanding of how to better, and more effectively, treat these diseases.
We grow mustaches in support of our fathers, our brothers, our cousins, our friends, and all the men in our life. We grow them for the women, too, so that they may too be surrounded by all their family, healthy, happy, and for a long, long time.
Thank you, again, for the extreme generosity that each and every one of you has shown. With your help, we have all made a direct impact on the lives of many people.
