The Career Development Office hosted a lunchtime panel focused on bankruptcy and reorganization careers for 1L students. Few people come to law school with plans to become a bankruptcy attorney. The Future of Criminal Justice Reform will convene top scholars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 on the LLS campus. Yale Law School Professor James Forman Jr., Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Dismantling Mass Incarceration: A Handbook for Change," will deliver a distinguished lecture. It will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Professor Michael Serota with three of the nation’s leading voices on criminal justice issues – Deputy Legal Director of the ACLU Yasmin Cader; renowned community organizer Raj Jayadev; and Professor Priscilla Ocen, Loyola Anti-Racism Center co-director. A reception and book signing will follow.

Congratulations to Board of Governors member Holly M. Parker '98 on being named one of LACBA's Black History Month Honorees! Holly Parker is a seasoned litigation attorney with over 25 years of experience. In 2023, she joined the law firm of Stone Dean LLP in 2023 where she specializes in premises liability defense and business litigation.

Parker received her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Supreme Court and United States District Court for the Central District.

For the past three years, Parker has concurrently served on the Board of Governors for Loyola Law School Alumni and the LACBA Business Law and USC Gould School of Law Institute of Corporate Counsel. She has also served on the Board of Directors for Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Inc. for over 10 years in various capacities, including Vice President, and has been the recipient of five President’s Awards for Outstanding Service. Parker continues to be active in the legal community.

Join us for Stand Up and Be Counted on Tuesday, February 4, from 5 – 7 p.m., in Burns Lounge, for a panel discussion with Albert C. Lum, Eugene Moy, and Prof. Nadine Tan, moderated by alumnus Ryan Urban ’20. Stand Up and Be Counted is the recently published memoir of Albert C. Lum, a Chinese American attorney who began practicing in Los Angeles in the 1960s and a co-founder of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA).
