🎓 🏫 🎉 We’ve got great news: SOE has been awarded a $6.9 million Teacher Quality Partnership grant, the largest federal award in school history.

Over the next five years, the funding will expand the impact of our partnership with Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, build on the success of our Avance Teacher Residency, and boost the number of qualified teachers and school leaders prepared to serve in the Los Angeles communities that need them the most.

Congratulations to Dr. Ernesto Colín on his promotion to Professor!

Drawing on his background in the anthropology of education, Indigenous education, and Chicana/o studies, Dr. Colín's scholarship examines how learning is shaped through community, language, culture, and ceremony. His work explores Indigenous educational practices, language reclamation, and the educational experiences of Indigenous youth, contributing important perspectives on equity, identity, and cultural sustainability in education.

In June he was named chair of the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies, an organization he's been involved with since he was an undergraduate at LMU in the 1990s.
