What if we didn’t stay in our lane?

At the University of Southern California, computing is a robot dog that feels its way across sand for future NASA missions, sensors that help doctors see children’s hearts more clearly, and hardware designed to cut AI’s energy use.

Today we celebrate the naming of the USC Stevens School of Computing and AI, connecting researchers, students and ideas across all 23 USC schools. Our deepest thanks to Mark and Mary Stevens for making it possible.

Join us at 4:00pm-6:00pm at the 📍Olin Hall of Engineering

I’m an engineer, but I also… 🏂🌊🥊

Being an engineer goes beyond the labs and classrooms. Our passions outside of school can shape the way we think, grow, and approach our careers.

Ava loves staying active through snowboarding, surfing, and boxing! These hobbies give her a chance to grow beyond the classroom as she works toward her master’s degree.

What hobbies or passions inspire you outside the lab?

Congratulations to USC robotics pioneer Maja Mataric on being named to the 2026 Forbes 50 Over 50: Innovation list!
For more than two decades, Matarić has helped define the field of socially assistive robotics-developing robots that
“help people help themselves” through personalized motivation, coaching and support.

Her research has explored how socially assistive robots can improve the lives of children with autism, stroke survivors, older adults living with dementia, students experiencing anxiety and others facing health and developmental challenges.

Matarić is the Chan Soon-Shiong Chair and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, Neuroscience and Pediatrics, director of the USC Interaction Lab and founding director of the USC Robotics and Autonomous Systems Center.
This recognition celebrates not only her groundbreaking contributions to robotics, but also her enduring commitment to developing technology that addresses real human needs.
