UCLA School of Dentistry

UCLA School of Dentistry Our mission is to improve oral and general health for the people of California and beyond.

Established over fifty years ago, the UCLA School of Dentistry has built a reputation for excellence in education, research, patient care, and public service. The School is distinguished by its academic excellence, world-renowned faculty, and diverse student body. Our graduates possess the preventive, diagnostic, and technical knowledge and skills necessary to provide patients with comprehensive d

ental services in a variety of healthcare delivery systems and in a socially sensitive and responsible manner. In addition to our dental training programs, the School operates two major general clinics and over a dozen specialty clinics at two separate locations in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The clinics are open to those seeking quality, affordable dental care. Our role in healthcare also extends to our research activities, which can be translated into new methods of managing and treating oral diseases and conditions. Our success in this area is evidenced by the fact that we continue to be among the top funded dental schools by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. This funding helps fuel our scholarly pursuits in the research and discovery process. Public service and outreach pushes our students beyond our school walls and enriches their overall training experience. Through participation at annual health fairs and outreach events, our students, residents, trainees, and faculty make a difference in the lives that they touch. In turn, those patients who receive care provide critical experience to our students and trainees.

A new resource advancing research on Fusobacterium nucleatum πŸ¦ πŸ“˜ has arrived! πŸ”— https://bit.ly/4zIdJk6

"Fusobacterium nucleatum: Methods and Protocols", edited by Chair of the Division of Oral and Systemic Health Sciences Dr. Hung Ton-That, brings together cutting-edge methods for studying this important oral pathobiont and its links to periodontitis, oral cancer, colorectal cancer, and more. Congratulations to Dr. Ton-That and fellow UCLA Dentistry faculty contributors Drs. Jia Chang, Yi-Wei Chen, Yvonne Hernandez-Kapila, Reuben Kim, and No-Hee Park (and their trainees) on helping advance this research!

The digital edition is available to readers at participating institutions through Springer Nature.

The School’s most cherished summer tradition – Dinner for 1️⃣2️⃣ Dental Students – has come to a close! An extension of UCLA's longstanding Dinner for 12 Strangers, this student-led initiative demonstrates the power of community and the Dental Bruin network to inspire and guide one another over a delicious meal!

The School will soon break ground on a new 2,377-square-foot Special Patient Care Clinic that strives to become Southern California's premier oral healthcare facility for treating medically compromised patients, thanks to a $4.2 million grant from the California Health Facility Financing Authority (CHFFA).

A $4.2M state grant to expand the UCLA School of Dentistry's Special Patient Care Clinic will adress a critical need for medically complex patients.

| Some culture, in between treating caries! Last Saturday, members of the Japanese Student Dental Association accompanied Professor Emeritus Dr. Ron Mito on a behind-the-scenes tour of the πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japanese American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ National Museum, which is renovating its galleries through the end of the year.

JDSA Vice President Alette Eide, D.D.S. ’29, said: πŸ—£οΈ β€œVisiting JAMN together was a really special experience, since some of us had families that were directly affected by the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans. This was also a rare opportunity to tour the museum before it reopened to the public, and we are very grateful to Dr. Mito for making this arrangement possible. We are thankful also to the museum staff for providing such a wonderful experience and showing us around Little Tokyo afterwards.”
