Congrats to our dearest Sofi Pedroza on winning this year’s Skye Donald Spirit of Community Award! This is the third year this award is granted, and it is awarded to one or more students who demonstrate integrity, generosity, and a focus on the well-being of the Law School community. Awardees receive both the honor and scholarship funds to support their legal education. Nominations can come from any member of the UCLA Law community, including students, staff, and faculty.

Sofi received multiple nominations for this award, with many people pointing out her generosity, dedication to the success of her peers, and her dedication to helping those around her find their community and feel welcome. We are truly proud to call her a member of the LLSA Community. ❤️

Calling all those interested in law school: consider applying to the UCLA Law Fellows Program!

The Law Fellows Program is an educational initiative that aims to de-mystify the law school admissions process, law school, and various practice areas within the legal field. Participants attend a series of “Academies,” where they interact with admissions professionals, current law students and faculty, and an array of practicing attorneys. Once Fellows are ready to apply to law school, the Law Fellows Program helps its participants navigate the application process by offering personalized admissions consulting until matriculation to law school.

The deadline is October 11, 2019. For the electronic application and FAQ, please visit the Law Fellows website:

Happy Labor Day from La Raza! Latinos played a vital role in the U.S. labor movement, and according to recent statistics, growing numbers of Latino members "could help strengthen labor's message as unions broaden their causes to include civil rights, gender and immigration issues while they focus on voter engagement and registration."

"Latinos make up almost 17 percent of the workforce, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and are projected to be more than 20 percent by 2026. Currently, 9.3 percent of Latino workers are in unions."

“We are in robust dialogue in this country to recognize union strength and worker power as a way to achieve success on so many fronts," SEIU's Maria Peralta says.
