Meet Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student Eric Custis, MBA ’22, DBA ’27! 🦁 He is the director of operations for West Coast venues, events, and catering at the Patina Restaurant Group and is also the president of Custis Pub.

Eric returned to the bluff because of his insatiable longing to learn, belief in LMU’s mission, and desire to make an impact on the world. “Every day, we can all try to be 1% better, whether in personal or professional situations. With LMU’s DBA program, I have the ability to change the world through my research and apply it directly to businesses.” He plans to use his degree to empower small businesses by providing them with the resources to encourage learning, educate them on practices to support their employees, and ultimately, succeed. 👏

The DBA program has been an innovative, supportive, and ground-breaking experience for Eric. “Rather than following a set curriculum, the program’s professors encourage us to focus on our own research and help make sure we succeed. It feels that the professors believe my success in the DBA program is their own success.” 🤝 He also shares that the program is not easy. “It is a demanding process that provides you with the tools and mindset to make the best decisions you can.”

Congratulations, Eric! We look forward to seeing the impact your research has on the world! 🌎

Introducing M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) alumna Lousin Babayan ’19, M.S. ’23, a data analyst at Keck Medicine of USC, who turned her passion for explaining things and love of sharing knowledge into a career centered around data and communication. 📈

Lousin chose the LMU MSBA program because it was an ideal fit, combining her technical skills with the ability to translate insights into meaningful action. “Business analytics focuses not just on data, but also on how to communicate and implement findings. It seemed to be a perfect balance and representation of who I am.” 🌟

Through hands-on projects with real-world businesses, Lousin built a strong foundation in both analytics and business during the program. She not only learned how to collect, prepare, clean, and analyze data but also how to effectively present data and communicate its meaning to diverse audiences. These skills have been essential to her success. 🚀

When reflecting on her time as a graduate student, what stands out most to Lousin is the strong connection she built with the faculty. “LMU's professors genuinely care about their students, and it shows. This mutual respect created an environment that was enjoyable and conducive to learning.” She recalled, “Professor Kala Seal exemplifies the very best of LMU. He teaches in an engaging and efficient manner and has left a lasting impact on my academic journey.”

For those considering the LMU MSBA program, Lousin shares this advice: “Be kind to yourself and practice patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Celebrate your progress, even the small wins, and keep pushing forward.”

As a proud double alumna, 🦁 Lousin is grateful for the education and values LMU instilled in her.

We’re so honored to cheer you on in all your success, Lousin!
