“These are the doctors I would hope would care for my family and me,” said Maggie Elder, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana after the Wear the White Coat Experience, shadowing Dr. Laura Bishop at Norton Children’s Hospital and UofL. Their time together highlighted what medicine is truly about: care that is thoughtful, compassionate and grounded in listening. https://joom.ag/7WKd If you’d like to be a part of our 2026 Wear the White Coat program, send us a message or email Kathryn Vance today!

Congratulations to our pediatric surgery partner Dr. Buonpane!

Congratulations to Christie L. Buonpane, MD, Pediatric General Surgery, on being asked to serve on the Scientific Advisory Council for the NEC Society — the world’s leading nonprofit dedicated to understanding and preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

The NEC Society brings together patient-families, clinicians and researchers who share a vision of building a world without NEC through research, education and advocacy so that babies and families never have to experience the devastation of NEC.

This recognition reflects Dr. Buonpane’s leadership and commitment to advancing care for the most vulnerable patients and families.

More proof that our Pulmonology Division is leading the way in the future of caring for children with complex and rare lung diseases.

Our faculty and fellows played a key role in shaping the conversations at this year's American Thoracic Society Conference.

Dr. Erica Stevens delivered a lecture on neonatal lung disease at the Pediatric Resident Boot Camp, joined a panel on pediatric pulmonary fellowship training, led a debate on the potential transition to 2‑year fellowship programs, and coordinated the University of Louisville School of Medicine poster presentation sponsored by PEPTDA to highlight individual pediatric pulmonology fellowship programs.

Dr. Scott Bickel presented in the pediatric pulmonology board review series on lung disease associated with autoimmune disorders and sickle cell disease.

Graduating fellow and future faculty member Dr. Rose Hawkins presented an abstract and poster featuring a unique case of recurrent laryngospasm in an infant.

First‑year fellow Dr. Ranya Baddourah presented a case report on the management of a teenager with cystic fibrosis who carries extremely rare mutations.

Amid all the academic activity, our team also made time to reconnect with former UofL residents and fellows attending the conference. Norton Children's
