The Institute of Media, Culture and Ethics brought an array of media practitioners to Bellarmine this school year, including:

-Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Jonathan Cherry, who shared his wide-ranging and impactful work, which grew out of his work on the Breonna Taylor protests and the early Covid pandemic in Louisville.

-Bellarmine Comm alums Olivia Russell (WAVE TV), Ian Cox (Kentucky Venues) and Olivia Reibel (Brown Forman), to discuss the transition from undergraduate study to careers in media and communication;

-Erin Keane, Chief Content Officer of Salon.com and author of the critically-acclaimed Runaway: Notes on the Myths that Made Me (Belt Publishing);

-Rep. John Yarmuth, recently retired U.S. representative of Kentucky's 3rd Congressional district and former publisher & editor of LEO (the Louisville Eccentric Observer). Yarmuth spoke about the work of government and the role of journalism in the highly partisan digital era.

Thanks to all who shared their work and their insights. We're busy at work planning events for the 2023-24 school year. We welcome your input! Until then, best wishes for summer.

We were thrilled with a great turnout for Jonathan Cherry's talk at Hilary's. The Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer shared stories about how his work has evolved as a photojournalist, how he keeps himself safe in difficult circumstances, and how he's turned his work into a career. And leave it to a photographer to ham it up on camera with institute director Gary Fogle during closing remarks. Another great night at Bellarmine.
