It’s been a few weeks, but we’re still celebrating our Bellarmine Comm graduates for 2025! Here are some of the latest graduates of our MA in Communication and MS in DIgital Media degrees. Congratulations, all!

Each year, Bellarmine thoroughly analyzes the graduation outcomes for its graduating cohort. The most recent survey results show that 53% of undergraduates from the Class of 2023 continuing their education chose to do so at Bellarmine. Read more.

We love it when our students' work is recognized. Former MA in Communication student Eve Bohakel Lee published “The Only Disability in Life Is a Bad Attitude”: So-Called “Inspirational” Media in The Age of Trump," with Bellarmine professors and co-authors Kyle Barnett, Amy Lein, and Moira O'Keeffe.

Proud of Communication graduate Emily Carroll!

As a senior production supervisor with Boardwalk, she spent two years in Wales working on Welcome to Wrexham, a 2022 docuseries chronicling the purchase of the professional football club Wrexham AFC by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our friend and colleague Dr. Maggie Rossman, Assistant Professor in Bellarmine's Department of Communication.

After joining us in 2020, Maggie quickly became a much-beloved teacher, adviser, colleague, and friend. We were dazzled by her scholarship and inspired by her ability to connect with students in the classroom. In the days after the shocking news, our community has been lifted up by an outpouring of love and affection for Maggie, Josh, and their new son Rory.

At 4pm today, there will be a prayer service at Our Lady of the Woods Chapel on the Bellarmine University campus. All are welcome.

We'll miss her dearly: Dr. Moira O'Keeffe is leaving Bellarmine for a role as Senior Learning Designer at Humana. We're sorry to see her go but celebrate all she's done for us and what's next for her. Best wishes from all of us in the Comm Wing!

Each year, the Department of Communication graduate faculty gives the Faculty Merit Award to outstanding scholarship in the MA in Communication and MS in Digital Media programs. This year's recipients are Sara Wines (left) and Hannah Flannery (right).

Hannah Flannery (MA in Communication) researched digital fandom in the social media age through studying social influencers (or "microcelebrities") and the increasing prevalence of "parasocial break-ups," when fan-celebrity connections end. Flannery developed several case studies to outline different types of disconnections, including ways to understand and avoid instances in which fans become violent.

Sara Wines (MS in Digital Media) researched the way media narratives and discourses recur over time. Sara mapped changing and cyclical attitudes about American life by reading through back issues of Time and Life magazines from 1960 to 1980. She closely analyzed the media texts, developed case studies on political and economic shifts, and linked those events and discourses to her own family's history through auto-ethnography.

Both Hannah and Sara were honored in May at the Bellarmine College Arts and Sciences Honors and Awards ceremony.

As classes wrapped up, we celebrated a job well done and the summer to come.

Another Bellarmine advantage: it's a quick jaunt to good eats. Professors Gary Fogle and Stacie Shain took their Comm 333 Media Production and Management Practicum students to I Heart Tacos and Stacie took her Comm 410 NEXU Agency students to nearby La Suerte.

NEXU is our department's in-house digital media and strategic communication firm, which helps local and regional non-profits with communication strategies and is run by Bellarmine communication students. The Comm 333 Media Productino class is a skills-based class in which students work on various aspects of producing and managing student media.
