The University of Louisville has received $11.6 million from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) to launch ’s new Nutrition and Metabolic Health Center, expanding research into some of the most pressing health challenges facing Kentucky and beyond—including diabetes, obesity, heart disease and metabolic liver disease.

Combined with $7.25 million in university support, this five-year Center of Biomedical Research Excellence grant will accelerate research in nutrition and metabolic health by fostering collaboration across disciplines, expanding research facilities and developing the next generation of research leaders through mentorship and project funding.

’s MD-PhD program has been designated a Medical Scientist Training Program by the National Institutes of Health—placing UofL among just 58 programs nationwide to receive this distinction.

The designation comes with $2 million in federal funding over five years and will expand opportunities at the University of Louisville School of Medicine for training the next generation of physician-scientists who bridge laboratory research and patient care.
