Our annual UofL Piano Festival and Elizabeth Huang Piano Competition has been moved from November 2026 to July 2027 to better accommodate the growth of the festival. This expanded summer festival will feature masterclasses, individual lessons, a piano competition, lectures, a faculty recital and performance opportunities for students. We are excited to welcome pianists to our campus next summer for an exciting opportunity to perform and learn more about the piano. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for more updates as the date approaches.

The University of Louisville Music Therapy Program is pleased to welcome alumna Mackenzie Leighty, MS, MT-BC, as the instructor for Practicum I this semester.
Mackenzie graduated summa cm laude from UofL with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and earned her Master of Science in Learning Analytics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her clinical work focuses on supporting children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities through individualized, music-based interventions. Her interests include early intervention, sensory integration, holistic child development, and the use of data to address educational gaps.
We are delighted to welcome Mackenzie back to UofL and look forward to the valuable clinical and academic expertise she will bring to our students.

Our voice faculty are fantastic teachers and performers. Join Chad Sloan, baritone, along with David George, piano, and Ahmed Alom, piano for a concert on September 13 at 3 p.m. in Comstock Hall. The event will feature music of Mozart, Debussy, Korngold and Rouse. You will also experience the world premiere of The Song of Silas. This work is composed by Louisville Orchestra Music Director Teddy Abrams with the poetry of NY Times best-selling author Silas House.

Congratulations to Lorenzo Trujillo, the School of Music recipient of the 2026 Wilson Wyatt Alumni Award. Each year, recognize Cardinals whose leadership, service and professional achievements embody the very best of the University of Louisville.
Lorenzo says of receiving this award: “UofL was where I feel like I transitioned to becoming a professional. It’s where I made lifelong friends and where I established the foundation for what kind of professional I would be. I have regularly visited UofL and still perform with the faculty there. Receiving this award is incredible because I feel like it solidifies my connection to this university for the rest of my life. It shows that UofL is not just a business but a community that gives back to its students in more ways than just a degree. It feels like a formal recognition of the relationship I have always had with UofL.”

Our world-renowned faculty are a big part of making the School of Music a special place to study. On September 1 at 7:30 p.m., come to see the faculty recital of Dr. William Reese Land on trumpet, featuring Interim Dean Dr. Krista Wallace-Boaz on piano and Dr. Jim McFarland on organ. Please join us for a recital by Chad Sloan, voice faculty member in the School of Music, where he will sing the music of Mozart, Debussy, Korngold, and Rouse. The event will present the World Premiere of The Song of Silas composed by Louisville Orchestra Music Director and Grammy Award-winning composer Teddy Abrams with the poetry of NY Times Best Selling Author and our former KY Poet Laureate Silas House. Take a seat in our audience on September 13, 2026, at 3 p.m. in Comstock Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.
