Join us for a conversation between Professor Alison Hamilton (Biology) and Professor Yuko Oda (Art & Design) on evolutionary changes and interrelationships between human and non-human species, prompted by Professor Oda’s exhibition “Intimate Symbiosis” on view at the Rist Institute.

Professor Hamilton’s research focuses on the evolution of biodiversity and maintaining evolutionary processes in human impacted environments. Professor Oda is a multimedia artist whose work imagines symbiotic relationships and human impacts on birds and other species.

This conversation will celebrate the closing of “Intimate Symbiosis” and will be followed by a short reception—refreshments will be served!

Fall Into Recycling, Part 2 🍂♻️

A few more moments from this semester’s recycling event.

Since we can only host one recycling event each semester, keeping items out of the trash starts with knowing what recycling options are available.

Check the labels on recycling bins around campus, use designated bins for electronics and batteries, and find local recycling options for items we don’t accept through Recycle Smart MA or RecyclePedia. When in doubt, check before you toss!

The rating reflects sustainability work happening across our campus, from research and academics to operations and community engagement.

🎓 Qualifications:
-Students from any major and school statewide
-Strong communication, research, and collaboration skills
-Passion for sustainability and environmental justice

💡What You'll Do:
-Contribute to a variety of energy related projects in areas such as communications & outreach, research, data analysis, grant writing, policy work, and more!
-Network with state and municipal leaders

📅 Details:
Part-time, 20 hrs/week
Hybrid, flexible location depending on placement

Got an old phone, laptop, appliance, or random household item taking up space?

That’s what Fall Into Recycling was for. The UMass Lowell community dropped off recyclables, electronics, household items, and materials for confidential shredding, giving unwanted items a chance to be properly recycled, reused, or disposed of.

We’ll be back at Spring Into Recycling 🌷♻️
