The Sustainability Team had a blast visiting ’s MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) in Charlestown, MA ♻️ As the 4th largest recycling facility in the country, it was incredible seeing how 600–700 tons of recyclables from Boston and the surrounding area are sorted and processed every day.

Stay tuned for a facility walkthrough coming soon 👀🎥

Through paintings and animation, Yuko Oda explores sustainability and our relationship with the natural world by imagining speculative ecosystems where plants, insects, and birds evolve and intertwine beyond the human era.

The Rist Institute hosted the artist talk and opening reception for Intimate Symbiosis, a new exhibition by Associate Professor and artist Yuko Oda of UMass Lowell’s Art & Design Department, whose work explores environmental futures through sculpture, animation, and multidisciplinary media. Curated by Kirsten Swenson, the exhibition launches a new series of faculty-centered exhibitions in the Cabot building.

Intimate Symbiosis will remain on view through the first part of the fall semester, with work by Ingrid Hess featured next as part of the series.
