In her research, Jannette Dufour, Ph.D., Welch Chair in Biochemistry and a professor in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Department of Cell Biology & Biochemistry, explores the role of Sertoli cells, found in te**es, in regulating the immune response that protects developing s***m. The goal is to better understand the mechanism to improve their protection capabilities and extend this ability to other tissues.

More than 7 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer’s disease and approximately 13 million family members and friends provide unpaid care to loved ones with the disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center researchers Aric Logsdon, Ph.D., and Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., received Junior Investigator Research Grants from the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium (TARCC). Dr. Logsdon, an assistant professor from the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at School of Medicine, received a grant for the project, “Exploring Glycan Sulfation at the Blood-brain Barrier in Alzheimer’s Disease.”

Dr. Singer, an assistant professor for the TTUHSC Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience and director of The Garrison Institute on Aging Memory Clinic, received a grant for his research, “Leveraging Technology to Meet the Needs of Rural Family Caregivers in Texas.”

Aric Logsdon, Ph.D., and Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., received Junior Investigator Research Grants from the Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium (TARCC).

Congratulations to Maryam Zubair, M.D., a pediatrics resident with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, on receiving 3rd place in the Clinical & Research Trainees Poster Competition at the Center of Excellence in Obesity & Cardiometabolic Research Annual Meeting this month! Dr. Zubair’s research examined obesity, PICU admission and respiratory support in children hospitalized with acute asthma exacerbations. She is mentored by Weerapong Lilitwat, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics.
