Andi Curtis, '23, shares how the work-study programs in the Department of Museum and Heritage Studies have prepared her for her future. Congrats Andi!

Curtis double majored in history and art history, with a minor in Renaissance studies, at Randolph. Now she’s preparing to start a masters program in medieval history at Swansea University in Wales.

Stacey Samuels ’18 and Maddie Shelby ’18 interned at the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College, where they primarily worked alongside education curator Laura McManus in community outreach and programming. Samuels and Shelby recorded both of their experiences in a running blog on the Maier Museum of Art’s website. When Andrea Campbell, an art history professor, talks about the four styles of Roman wall painting in her classes, she uses fresco pieces from the collection to help students see the differences in person. The vault can be a spooky place when the motion censor lights turn off and you find yourself alone with the art. We hope you enjoy our "Scare-Maier" series.

Josh Bulavko ’22, professor Gerry Sherayko, and Tomi-Lauren McGinnis ’23 are studying Virginia monuments and memorials for their summer research project. In mid-May, Randolph professor Gerry Sherayko, Josh Bulavko ’22, and Tomi-Lauren McGinnis ’23 visited Lynchburg’s Pierce Street Historic District as part of Randolph’s Summer Research Program. The neighborhood, an integral part of the city’s Black history, is home to a group of historic markers honoring the contributions of those who once called it home. The summer research project was inspired by the events of the last year, when the murder of George Floyd inspired protests, along with the questioning, and often removal, of longstanding monuments.
