Dimensions of Diversity spent time volunteering this morning at the Anne Spencer House and Pierce Street Gateway! Both located in Lynchburg, VA.

We learned about Anne Spencer, Harlem Renaissance poet and civil rights activist and spent time gardening at Pierce Street Gateway. Did you know Anne Spencer was the first minority librarian at the Jones-Dunbar branch library and the first Virginian to be published in the Norton Anthology.? Her son, Chauncey Spencer, was one of the first members of the minority National Airmen’s Association, which later became known as the Tuskegee Airmen!

Swipe to see a few photos of the Anne Spencer House! ✨

As the keynote speaker she will be discussing the importance of equal access for students of color and the navigation of predominantly white institutions. You don’t want to miss this! 👏🏽
