Check out our featured alumnus, Caleb Jordan Lee of EastWestProduction.com, and his unique path to his career today.
- 1. When did you graduate?
I started full time college at the age of 16. Simultaneously, I had the opportunity to shoot several international documentaries in the countries of Nepal, Guatemala, and Nicaragua for charity – which developed my love for storytelling.
- 2. What was the most beneficial thing you learned in school?
Liberty broadened my horizon for the many methods one can share their creativity. I often met artists who were majoring in mainstream majors and would later leverage that degree into sharing their talent in an adjacent field.
- 3. What are you doing now?
Where my college plans took a different path was when I started my company while in college. Once I completed my international work, I realized I couldn't give up filmmaking thereafter, and then decided to launch my company East West. The business grew at a far more accelerated rate than I would have expected, and by my Junior year, I couldn't manage both my degree and expanding company. I had to make the difficult decision to put-on-hold my degree and follow the direction God was leading me.
- 4. What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
No one in the creative arts community will follow the same path to success. The most important thing one can learn is to differentiate themselves. The process of learning to not just 'trying to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors', but instead 'trying to be better than yourself' is fundamental to growth.
- 5. Any other info you want to share?
East West is currently a team of four. We primarily film destination weddings and commercials.
