BIG OPPORTUNITY-- Deadline TODAY. . . Check it out!
The Sigma Regional Coordinators are excited to announce that in partnership with Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, and the Resilient Nurses Initiative in Maryland, we will be presenting The Nurse Antigone and need nurse participants! The goal of this event is to foster dialogue and a renewed sense of community between nurses, while engaging the public in crucial conversations about the future of nursing. The Nurse Antigone event will be presented in partnership with select healthcare and professional organizations and our Sigma event will be: The Nurse Antigone: Sigma Theta Tau Thursday February 23, 2023 via Zoom 5pm ET
Supported by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, The Nurse Antigone is a groundbreaking theatrical event in which nurses present dramatic readings of Sophocles’ Antigone on Zoom. Featuring professional actors and a chorus of frontline nurses, the presentation will frame powerful, guided discussions about the unique challenges faced by nurses before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The virtual presentation of The Nurse Antigone: Sigma Global Nurse Excellence will be conducted in entirely on Zoom and will consist of three components: The Performance (45 minutes): A dramatic reading of scenes from Sophocles’ Antigone performed by stage and film actors and volunteer nurses in the Nurse Chorus. The Panel (15 minutes): Comments from a panel of nurses relating the ancient play to their personal and professional experiences. Audience Discussion: (60 minutes): Facilitated discussion about the play, its core themes, and how they relate to the past, present, and future of nursing. To be successful, we need the involvement of several of our heroic nurses! Are you interested in participating in this live event? If so, there are several roles from which to choose.
Nurse Actor: Participate as a volunteer nurse actor in the Nurse Chorus – no acting experience needed! The time commitment includes participating in two 90-minute rehearsals on Zoom in advance of the event at a time that works for all actors and nurse volunteers, and the 2-hour presentation. Members of the Nurse Chorus will be reading from a script written in English – so English fluency is needed for this role.
Community Panelist: As a nurse panelist following the 90 minute presentation, you will respond in the moment, from your hearts and gut-instincts, to what you heard and saw in the reading of Sophocles’ Antigone. What resonated with you based on your experiences. We are not looking for nurses working in direct care and point of support level, not higher-ranking or executive nurses. As a panelist, it is important to know that your remarks are not prepared nor polished, but will be your unscripted, immediate reactions. The presentation is enhanced by your authenticity through your candor, spontaneity, and openness. This authentic input will also be asked of the general audience after the panelists’ remarks.
Prioritized Audience Participant: As a prioritized participant, you will attend the virtual Zoom event and, when the discussion session begins, raise your hand to provide your thoughts. Because you volunteered in advance of the presentation, your name will be provided to the event organizers and when you raise your hand, you will be the first members of the audience to be “called on” to share your insights. NOTE: This message is being sent to Sigma members in all our 21 regions. We would love participation from each region where possible.
