The Western Illinois University Art Education invites youth to participate in the Fall 2026 Community Art Program, a free arts opportunity designed to foster creativity, artistic exploration/expression and hands-on learning.

The program will be held on four Sundays during the Fall 2026 semester: Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15. Participants will work alongside WIU Art Education students while exploring a wide variety of engaging art projects.

The Community Art Program offers age-appropriate classes for students in grades 1–8:

Grades 1-2 (Garwood Hall 24, 1-2:30 p.m.) will create projects such as Starry Night Pumpkin and Bubble Gum Portrait, introducing concepts of expressionism, self-expression and identity through colorful artwork.

Grades 3-4 (Garwood Hall 25, 1-2:30 p.m.) will explore projects including Kandinsky Circles, Trifold Landscape, Torn Paper Landscape and Under the Sea, focusing on color theory, composition and creative experimentation.

Grades 5-8 (Garwood Hall 24, 3-4:30 p.m.) will create Keyhole Landscape and Multimedia Collage Landscape projects that encourage students to experiment with multiple artistic media and design techniques.

The program is free of charge, but enrollment is limited to 15 students per class. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and early registration is encouraged.

Parents and guardians must complete a registration and permission form for each participating child. The registration form is available below.

For additional information or to register, contact the Art Education program coordinator, Ta-Teh Ku, at [email protected].
