On Friday, August 7th, Dr. Joel Gruver, Dr. Andrea Venturi, and WIU pre-vet student Chloe Corbin hosted roughly 100 organic and conventional farmers, ag business professionals, students and staff at the 2026 WIU/Allison Organic Farm Field Day!
The event kicked off with presentations by new faculty Agronomist Oscar Perez-Hernandez, Professor Torbert's Orange Corn , Joel Gruver and keynote presenter Lisa Kissing-Kucek in a machine shed at a neighboring farm. Presentations were accompanied by tasty snacks including purple and gold popcorn followed by a delicious taco lunch.
After lunch, most attendees headed to the Allison Farm to tour the research and demonstration plots. They also got to meet the farm's latest residents - a small heard of British Whites affectionately known as "the girls" on loan from Grateful Graze.
Thank you to everyone for attending and supporting organic research at WIU.
