Alpha Sigma Alpha at Western Illinois University The purpose of Alpha Sigma Alpha is to foster close friendships between members and develop women of poise and purpose.

Alpha Sigma Alpha is one of five sororities at Western Illinois University. We were founded at WIU in 1943 and then again in 2015. Alpha Sigma Alpha inspires women to lead, to serve and most of all to make a difference.

Integrity means staying true to who you are and the values we hold, even when no one is watching. Keeping our commitments, being honest with ourselves and others, and supporting our sisters. Alpha Sigma Alpha encourages us to lead with authenticity and do what is right. We let our actions reflect our words, stand by the promises we make, and strive to be women others can trust and depend on.

An important core value we hold in Alpha Sigma Alpha is Generosity.

Generosity means giving back to the people and the communities around us, whether it’s volunteering, supporting our sisters, giving our time, or simply being there when someone needs a friend. Alpha Sigma Alpha encourages us to lead with kindness and make a difference in the lives of others. Being an Alpha Sig means finding a sisterhood that gives just as much as it receives and reminds us that the smallest acts of generosity can make a big impact.

This week, we’re featuring our Alumna Kristen, who was initiated into Beta Kappa in 1988. Kristen shared how Alpha Sigma Alpha helped her develop communication and teamwork skills that continue to serve her throughout her career. Her favorite part of ASA is the lifelong sisterhood she shares with her sisters, more than 35 years after graduation. From celebrating each other’s highs to supporting one another through difficult times, Kristen’s story is a beautiful reminder that sisterhood truly lasts a lifetime.
