Preserving History, Together!
We are incredibly honored to announce that the Museum of Aviation and Middle Georgia State University (MGA) have received the prestigious Historic Preservation Award from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)!
This award recognizes a multi-year partnership to preserve, catalog, and prepare the historic 483rd Bomb Group Collection for digitization. This incredible archive documents the brave service of a WWII B-17 Flying Fortress unit that served in Italy.
Through this teamwork:
The collection is being preserved by MGA’s Archivist and Department of History & Political Science.
Materials are being cataloged using modern digital systems.
MGA students are gaining hands-on archival and preservation experience.
Public exhibits have brought this vital history directly to our community.
A special congratulations to the project leaders, who will be honored by the Sukey Hart Chapter, NSDAR at an upcoming reception:
Dr. Susan Asbury (MGA Associate Professor of History)
Ashley Bennett (MGA Archivist)
Erin Tapp (Museum of Aviation Collection Manager)
Arthur Sullivan (Museum of Aviation Curator)
Thank you to the DAR for recognizing this vital work to ensure the stories of those who served are never forgotten! Please join us on September 9th to celebrate this achievement!
