Ten years ago, A. Rowan came to Wesleyan as a student still figuring out what they wanted to study. Then a psychology class with now-Provost Dr. Melody Blake sparked a new interest; faculty mentors helped turn their curiosity into research, and an honors thesis helped prepare them for what came next.

Now, with a Ph.D. and years of research experience, Rowan is back at Wesleyan - this time as a professor! And they’re ready to nurture the same curiosity in a new generation of students.

This week, we proudly celebrated Wesleyan’s Class of 2028 during our White Coat Ceremony!

Surrounded by faculty, family and friends, our nursing students received their white coats and joined nursing faculty and RNs in attendance in reciting the Professional Nurse’s Pledge, committing themselves to professional excellence, compassion, collaboration and advocacy for their patients.

And as they prepare for everything still ahead, Dr. Dee Tanner, Dean of the School of Applied Science and Nursing, offered an important reminder, “Think of your journey as a marathon. This is not a sprint. We are here to help you train. Pace yourselves. Take breaks along the way, and stay hydrated with knowledge."

And they won't be running that marathon alone.

To the Class of 2028: Wear your white coats with pride, and always remember the responsibility and compassion they represent!

Wesleyan College is deeply saddened by the passing of Gloria Steinem, whose decades of advocacy helped transform the conversation around women’s equality.

Steinem dedicated her life to creating a world where women’s voices were heard and their opportunities were not limited by their gender. In many ways, her life’s work reflected a vision Wesleyan has championed since 1836: accelerating equality for women.

As the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, Wesleyan honors Steinem’s remarkable legacy and the generations she inspired to continue building a more equal world.

Today, we celebrated the Class of 2028 during Wesleyan’s White Coat Ceremony, officially welcoming what Dr. Tanner affectionately called our “newest flock of nurselings.”

The white coat completes our nursing students’ clinical uniforms, but it represents so much more: professionalism, trust, compassion and a commitment to client-centered care.

Congratulations to the Class of 2028 as they take this meaningful next step in their nursing journeys! Here’s just a glimpse of today’s celebration. More will be coming over the next few days!

When we say Wesleyan has a hands-on president, we mean it. 💜

And, now that the hard hats are on, we’re getting to work. We’re grateful to The Telegraph & macon.com for highlighting the exciting momentum underway at Wesleyan and the historic generosity helping make it possible, including the $8.6+ million estate gift from Ronald and Arline Atkins Finch ’56 - the largest bequest in Wesleyan College history.

The Finches’ extraordinary gift will create opportunities for generations of Wesleyan students while helping advance important priorities across the College, including the transformation of Porter Gym.

Hard hats on. Future in progress!

Athletics have become a key draw for Wesleyan, and a record-setting bequest will help the school finish a crucial gym renovation.

There’s even more to look forward to in the future of Wesleyan Athletics!

During the 2027-2028 academic year, our inaugural rugby team will take the pitch, and Head Coach Chris Parks is already hard at work building the program from the ground up.

With more than 20 years of rugby experience, Coach Parks brings a vision for a program grounded in resilience, teamwork, discipline and competitiveness.

“I am incredibly honored to lead the women’s rugby program at Wesleyan College,” Parks said. “Rugby is a sport that demands resilience and absolute teamwork — qualities that perfectly align with the spirit of this institution. I look forward to building a fiercely competitive culture and empowering these student-athletes to achieve excellence on the pitch and in life.”

For the student-athletes who make up Wesleyan’s first rugby team, this will be a chance to do more than compete. They’ll have the opportunity to help set the standard, establish new traditions and leave their mark on Wesleyan Athletics from the very beginning.

The countdown to Wesleyan hockey continues! 💜🐺🏒

As our student-athletes gear up for an exciting first season on the ice, President Meaghan Blight and Head Coach Caleb Cameron are making sure some of our biggest supporters are ready, too!

Today, Kathryn Dennis of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia received her very own Wesleyan hockey jersey.

Wesleyan Volleyball is on the court for its first home match of the season, and our Wolves came ready to compete!

And you can’t have a home opener without a home crowd. Special shoutout to The Wolves Den, our Wesleyan Student Section, for showing up, getting loud and bringing the ENERGY!

We’re also incredibly grateful to our friends at Mount de Sales Academy for welcoming us to their facility while Porter Gymnasium undergoes its exciting transformation.
