With a grant from the Dairy Innovation Hub this past July, the team at UW-Madison Animal and Dairy Science reimagined and brought back Badger Dairy Camp. This program has played such an important role for dairy cattle enthusiasts across Wisconsin - it's great to see it return. Some new aspects of the program include exposure to topics across the whole dairy system - animal health and welfare, human health and nutrition, land and water stewardship, and farm business and community.

The recently awarded four faculty research fellowships to increase dairy-related research capacity through the Dairy Innovation Hub initiative.

The final awardee is Zifan Wan, an assistant professor focused on applying non-thermal technologies to improve food safety and sustainability. Her project explores reusing condensate of whey (COW) water, a byproduct typically discarded despite being only lightly contaminated.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville recently awarded four faculty research fellowships to increase dairy-related research capacity through the Dairy Innovation Hub initiative.

The third awardee is Marcia Harr Bailey, an associate professor of business and entrepreneurship focused on experiential learning and innovation. Bailey’s project aims to connect students with dairy farmers through hands-on, app-based learning.

The University of Wisconsin–Platteville recently awarded four faculty research fellowships to increase dairy-related research capacity through the Dairy Innovation Hub initiative.

The second awardee is Rich Crow, an assistant professor specializing in agronomy and agricultural technology, on this project. In collaboration with Kelvin Amon, Rich will investigate reliable alternatives for high-quality silage that may replace brown midrib which is expected to be phased out by 2030.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville recently awarded four faculty research fellowships to increase dairy-related research capacity through the Dairy Innovation Hub initiative.

The first awardee is Kelvin Amon, an assistant professor whose work focuses on economic resilience in dairy systems, particularly for small- and mid-sized farms. Amon’s project focuses on developing a farmer-informed safety net that better reflects the full cost of dairy production.
