Meet K9 Teo! He's a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd who joined UWPD this year and is partnered with Officer Justin Zurbuchen.
K9 Teo is a dual purpose K9 – he is trained in obedience, tracking, explosive detection, article search, area search, building search, and apprehension. K9 Teo and Officer Zurbuchen completed their training at Canine Deployed in Indiana. K9 Teo has already been an incredible asset at UWPD. You may have even seen him working at UW Badger Football game this year to keep his community safe! When not at work, Teo enjoys playing with his brother (former UWPD K9) Ritter as well as his human family.
Please help us welcome this exciting new addition to our team!

October is National Crime Prevention Month! This week is focused on social media harm.
The recent $18 billion state settlement with Meta represents an important milestone, but more work remains. NCPC is committed to helping communities advocate for stronger protections against the harmful effects of social media, including addictive platform design, cyberbullying, and the facilitation of illegal drug sales that endanger young people every day. The actions of an off-duty UW-Madison Police Department officer led to the arrest of a suspect responsible for an off-campus weapons offense on Langdon Street.

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 11:55 p.m., UWPD issued an Off-Campus Emergency Alert about a man with a knife on Langdon Street. The suspect fled the scene and could not be immediately located.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., a UWPD officer heading home from his shift spotted the suspect, Rudy Garcia, 31, of Madison, on Monroe Street near Randall Avenue. The officer relayed the information to officers, and Garcia was taken into custody by UWPD.

During a search of the suspect, officers located the knife from the earlier incident, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Garcia, who also had an active felony warrant, was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of felony bail jumping, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Madison Police Department is expected to add additional charges related to the Langdon Street weapons offense that occurred earlier in the evening.
