LSC Graduate Student Spotlight: learn more about the fantastic research done by Dayeon Eom! 👏 🎉
Dayeon is a Ph.D. candidate in Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studies the social and communicative consequences of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Her work explores topics including AI companionship, public perceptions of science and expertise, health and risk communication, and inequalities in digital environments. She draws on survey experiments, computational text and platform analysis, qualitative interviews, and community-engaged research to examine how new technologies intersect with public attitudes, social values, and everyday communication.
Her research has appeared in journals including Science Communication, Nature Scientific Reports, Science and Public Policy, Technology in Society, and Computers in Human Behavior Reports. Before beginning her doctoral work, Dayeon worked in investigative and data journalism, an experience that continues to inform her interest in public-facing, socially consequential research.
