's Dr. Stephen Moore has written two new chapters on brutality in the gospels for The Bible and Violence, Vol. 1: Violence in Biblical Texts.

Dr. Moore is the Edmund S. Janes Professor of New Testament Studies and has taught at Drew University since 1999.

The collection is edited by Chris Greenough, Johnathan Jodamus, Mmapula Kebaneilwe, and Johanna Stiebert. It is planned to be published by Bloomsbury's T&T Clark.

doctoral candidate Damien Domenack has been announced as one of 15 recipients of the Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE) doctoral fellowships.

“The FTE has accompanied my vocational development across several seasons, making this fellowship part of a much longer formation as a theological educator,” said Domenack.

“Receiving this fellowship feels especially meaningful as FTE has accompanied my vocational discernment through my MDiv and ThM and into clinical chaplaincy residency. I am grateful to continue that relationship as I move into the next season of my work as a theological educator.”

Domenack’s FTE fellowship will provide support as he completes his dissertation, including dedicated writing time with an academic community of FTE peers at the 2026 Writing Workshop. He will also have the opportunity to participate in the Forum for Theological Educators program and will receive individual mentorship from a faculty member within the FTE network.

“As I prepare for the academic job market, the fellowship will support that transition with professional development focused on my application materials and preparation for interviewing and negotiation,” added Domenack.

Domenack initially came to Drew directly from a chaplaincy residency, having chosen Drew for its inter- and trans-disciplinary focus and longstanding support and partnership with the Hispanic Theological Initiative.

“Drew’s Transdisciplinary Signature Areas in Decolonial and Critical Theory have given me a place to bring my intersecting experiences into theological and ethical study,” he said. “Supported by the vocational stewardship of Drew’s faculty, I have developed Christian social ethics in sustained conversation with q***r and trans studies; dance and critical performance studies; and Indigenous, Womanist, Black feminist, Afro-Latine, Caribbean, and Mujerista theory and ethics while remaining accountable to the communities that shape my work.”

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate Damien Domenack on his FTE fellowship and his work in the fields of Christian social ethics, culturally-responsive healthcare, and hospitality.

Hawk Ricketts T'26, T'27 is a dual-degree student who encourages others to be active in the campus community.

While studying at Drew University, Hawk has been involved in Spectrum (Drew Theological School's student caucus for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies), DEAL (Drew Environmental Action League), and The United Methodist Church in Madison.

"Drew University has many opportunities waiting to be shared with its students," he said. "Once you find your community here, you will find yourself."

Upon crossing the porch during commencement for the Master of Arts in Religion, they entered the Master of Sacred Theology. These are two research-based degree programs offered by Drew Theological School.

At commencement, Hawk gave a shoutout to Dr. Laurel Kearns, John Fletcher Hurst Professor of Ecology, Religion, and Society; Dr. Stephen Moore, Edmund S. Janes Professor of New Testament Studies; and Rev. Dr. Traci West, James W. Pearsall Professor Emerita of Christian Ethics and African American Studies.

"[These professors] are some of the most genuine kindlers of scholarship I have ever come across. I would not be the academic I am today if it weren’t for their patience and bold ways of teaching," Hawk said.

Dr. Terry Todd. Ask your quick questions about the application and enrollment processes during Office Hours before submitting your spring 2027 application by December 1.
