WSB research makes a Pulitzer-winning impact! 🏆
Journalists Susie Neilson, Megan Fan Munce, and Sara DiNatale of the San Francisco Chronicle recently won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting for an article series titled "Burned." The series showed how insurance companies using algorithmic tools have systematically undervalued properties, making it impossible to rebuild after California wildfires.
Philip Mulder, assistant professor of risk and insurance, has research featured in the article "A Broken System is Keeping California Homes Underinsured. Millions Have No Idea They're at Risk." The study referenced is titled "Coverage Neglect in Homeowners Insurance."
