Well, National Convention was nothing short of a blast! I’m sure the attendees will tell you the same!

After study tours and exploring the city had concluded, convention was underway, with opening ceremonies, a reflection session, and the induction of 5 new honorary brothers. Thursday was all about getting to know our brothers, spending time with those we weren’t so familiar with, and creating the bonds necessary to make better men.

On Friday, our delegates, Rylan Headington and Frederick Blair, alongside Alumni Secretary Matt Olson and Chapter Advisor Jake Greshik, took part in the business portion, voting on two important amendments to the ΑΓΡ Constitution. Meanwhile, other brothers attended a career fair, put on by alumni from chapters across the nation. Here our brothers were eligible for a chance to win a National AGR scholarship. The day ended with a tour of Churchill Downs and a brotherhood bonding social hour!

On Saturday, the final day, awards for chapter excellence were administered, where Iota chapter was fortunate to receive the highest honor for best Crescent feature article. Throughout the day, Iota brothers attended leadership workshops and got to chat with some esteemed Iota alumni, which was a great opportunity!

Our convention ended extraordinarily with a banquet, live auction, and induction of four alumni into the National AGR Hall of Fame. One of our brothers, Nick Needham, was also fortunate enough to receive one of the national scholarships from Friday!

Overall, this was an experience like no other! Thank you to those who made this trip possible, as it truly was an experience of a lifetime!

Our brothers have been working hard this summer here at Iota Chapter! Take a few moments to hear about the cool things we have been up to!

Name: Henry Kau (1823)
Hometown: Palmyra, WI
Major: Real Estate and Urban Land Economics

Title: Community Leasing Intern - Cardinal Group Companies

Details: In this internship, Henry supported the leasing process across multiple apartment communities. His responsibilities included preparing and managing lease documents, conducting property tours, assisting prospective residents, and maintaining communication with current tenants. Through this experience, he gained valuable insight into property management, customer service, sales, and the leasing industry.

One thing learned: The most important lesson Henry learned was that successful salesmanship is built on honesty and trust. He also discovered that every question he cannot answer is an opportunity to expand my knowledge and improve professionally

Name: Tyler Hanson (1803)
Hometown: Sammamish, WA
Major: Biological Systems Engineering

Title: UW-Madison Agronomy - Cover Crop Intern

Details: This summer, Tyler has been a research intern for the forage cover crops lab at UW-Madison. he is one of three interns, and together they help the researchers and graduate students collect and process field data throughout their trial periods. The studies he spends most of his time on are focused on concerns farmers have raised related to machinery traffic, alfalfa winterkill, and various kinds of allelopathy.

One thing learned: This internship has given Tyler an understanding of what graduate level and professional research entails and how agronomic research fits into the overall agricultural system.

While in Kentucky…

The Rhos are headed down to Kentucky for the week for the biannual AGR National Convention! Before Convention begins on Thursday, August 6th, the men who travelled were fortunate enough to be provided the opportunity for a few study tours!

The study tours included seeing the original Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum, observing how bats crafted from start to finish. We then travelled to our next study tour: A nostalgic bourbon distillery that still operates today! We ended the day with a tour of Hermitage Farms, home of some of the best race horses in the world!

As lots of information was learned and lifelong memories were made, we want to extend a huge thank you to all of our alumni chapter that made this possible. The experience was something truly extraordinary and extremely valuable!

Name: Brandon Boyd (1773)

Major: Agronomy and Agricultural Business Management

Title: Insight FS Precision Technology Intern

Details: At Insight FS this summer some of Brandon’s tasks were to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into business to help both employees and customers using their new AI chat tool in their MyFS Agronomy app, working with and using customer data to help make agronomic decisions, make reports for growers throughout the season so they can see the season progress of their operation, and help with the many agronomy needs of customers including crop scouting and data retrieval.

One thing learned: AI might be a leading Segway into many new possibilities in the world of crop farming!

Our brothers have been working hard this summer here at Iota Chapter! Take a few moments to hear about the cool things we have been up to!

Name: Reyes Murillo (1813)
Hometown: Madison, WI
Major: Agricultural Business Management

Title: Research Intern/Agriculture Technician

Details: At Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Japan, Reyes had the privilege of assisting with multiple research projects focused on bovine reproduction while also conducting his own experiments aimed at improving in vitro fertilization (IVF) rates in Japanese Black Wagyu and Holstein cattle. Equally rewarding was the agricultural technician portion, where he spent time caring for cattle, supporting daily farm operations, and gaining firsthand experience in livestock management.

One thing learned: The most important thing Reyes learned was the value of combining scientific research with hands-on experience to improve cattle production.

Name: Isaac Ziebarth (1812)
Hometown: Arena, WI
Major: Agronomy and Dairy and Food Animal Management

Title: Agronomy Operations Intern

Details: Isaac is working at Premier Co-op this summer, where he has been focusing on helping farmers produce high quality crops. Two main areas he focuses on are crop scouting and nutrient application. He has scouted many acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and more, observing disease, pest control, fertilizer, and also driving trucks.

One thing learned: Isaac has learned that in order to maintain loyal customers, high quality work and a great reputation is necessary.
