Among the many societal challenges that our faculty are confronting with creativity and resourcefulness, one in particular is proving to be especially vexing.

The faculty in our Quantitative Methods area have met weekly for lunch at the Hong Kong Cafe for longer than anyone can recall. Over hot-and-sour soup and cashew chicken (with extra cashews!), these professors have been gathering to discuss program business, debate the latest developments in educational statistics and artificial intelligence, and spill the hottest tea from the world of psychometrics. But now that Hong Kong Cafe has served its last plate of noodles, they’re at a loss for where to meet for lunch.

Any tips on where they should go now? Post your suggestion as a comment! It might become a decades-long lunchtime tradition...

We’re proud to share that UW–Madison’s Department of Educational Psychology has once again been ranked No. 1 by U.S. News in 2026, marking the ninth time since 2014 our program has earned the top spot.

As Jennifer Asmus, professor and chair of the department, notes, “This achievement recognizes our commitment to enhance the understanding of human behavior, learning, and mental health, and responsible use of AI in the classroom…” She adds that the ranking “reflects decades of shared commitment by our faculty to engage in rigorous, innovative, and impactful scholarship, mentorship, and teaching.”

This milestone reflects the collective impact of our faculty, students, staff, and alumni, whose dedication continues to drive meaningful research and learning.
