This week, MTSA is proud to host Zachary Smith, DNP, CRNA, CHSE, a PhD student at East Carolina University, as he conducts research on prone CPR, a technique that could improve outcomes for patients who experience cardiac arrest while positioned face down during surgery or critical care.
Zachary's research, which began in 2020 and is supported by an AANA Foundation grant, seeks to better understand the physiological mechanisms behind prone CPR and how it may compare to traditional chest compressions.
We're especially grateful to Stryker for providing the use of a Lucas 3 Chest Compression System to support this important work. The collaboration between industry partners, researchers, and educators is helping move the profession forward.
Zachary also shares a special connection with MTSA through Christian Falyar, who taught him during his time at Duke University. As Zachary noted in a recent ECU feature, his goal is to continue a "bench-to-bedside" approach, translating research discoveries into better clinical practice.
We're honored to play a small role in supporting this important research and look forward to seeing the impact of his findings on the future of anesthesia and resuscitation science.
