UW–Madison junior Jimena taught children in the Dominican Republic a unique breathing exercise to help build English language skills.

It goes like this: “Breathe in the pizza, blow out the candle.” 🍕🕯️

Linking physical actions (like smelling a piece of pizza and blowing out a candle) with verbal instructions makes it easier to remember.

When a parent has cancer, Kesem is a sanctuary where kids can laugh, cry and find peers who truly get it. 💞🤗

The camp is run by student volunteers like sophomore Lariska Kons, who attended the camp herself.

“Kesem made me feel seen in a way that I didn’t know I needed at that time. I graduated as a camper and couldn’t wait to come back,” Lariska says.
