June is National Safety Month, and every Monday we are dropping a new tip to keep our campus safe.

Let's start with those "close calls" we usually just shrug off. Maybe you tripped over a loose computer cord in the lab but caught your balance. That is a near-miss, and it is a free warning.

When you report those minor hazards to Risk Management, we can fix them before someone actually gets hurt.

Safety is a daily habit we build together. Report here: https://go.nd.edu/GoodCatch

In his valedictory address last weekend, Martin Soros reflected on the warmth and community that defined the Class of 2026’s time at Notre Dame.

From helping build a snow chapel on South Quad to serving others on the margins, he reminded graduates that the world doesn’t just need successful lawyers, doctors, teachers, and CEOs, it needs people willing to radiate kindness, compassion, and human connection.

“As brothers and sisters,” he said, “the change we wish to see occurs by radiating warmth, one person at a time.”

In his Laetare address to the Class of 2026, Tim Shriver challenged graduates to lead lives rooted in compassion, courage and the inherent dignity of every human being.

Drawing from his experiences as a teacher and as chairman of Special Olympics, Shriver reflected on the people who shaped his understanding of faith, belonging and what it means to truly see one another. He shared the story of a Special Olympics athlete in Ireland whose determination united an entire arena in celebration, reminding graduates that “humanity was one.”

As graduates prepare to leave the home field of the Fighting Irish, Shriver encouraged them to fight for something greater than themselves: to honor the dignity in every person and “renew the face of the earth.”
